Refurbishment of changing rooms at Birstall CC

Aim: To raise funds to refurbish the outdated changing rooms at BCC to make them more welcoming for men, women & juniors alike

Who are we?

Established in 1887, Birstall Cricket Club is a family-oriented organization dedicated to providing high-quality, safe, and inclusive sporting and social facilities for both the local community and our members. We offer comprehensive cricket coaching and opportunities for all, featuring teams for boys, girls, men, and women, ranging from under 9s to our first XI, which competes in the Bradford Premier League.

Operated by a dedicated team of volunteers, our club currently boasts over 40 senior male cricketers, more than 15 senior female cricketers, over 40 junior cricketers and a ladies’ rounders team. Additionally, we host community events, such as our annual Music Festival in support of Kirkwood Hospice, and implement national coaching initiatives, including the ECB’s All Stars programme.

Why are we crowdfunding? 

Our changing facilities are in need of significant improvement. Originally constructed when only men's teams were active, the current layout is inadequate for our growing number of junior and women's teams. The changing rooms are outdated, poorly designed, uncomfortable, with toilets primarily intended for male users and showers lacking privacy.

Currently, the space is underutilized due to its unappealing nature, which hinders our ability to attract more women and girls to the sport.

How we'll spend the money raised

To address these issues, we plan to refurbish the changing rooms and shower/toilet area, creating a more welcoming environment for all players, including visiting teams. The renovation will involve the installation of player changing units in both the Home and Away dressing rooms, equipped with hooks, shelves, and under-bench storage, as well as new flooring.

In the shower area, we will introduce partition walls and locks on doors to ensure privacy for individuals showering after matches or training sessions. We will also remove urinals and install cubicles and wash basins, resulting in a clean, bright, modern, and inclusive facility.

Community impact

The upgraded changing room area will directly benefit approximately 100 local individuals who currently play cricket at Birstall CC, particularly juniors and female players who have previously been underserved by our facilities. Furthermore, these enhancements will attract more participants to the sport, especially women and girls, by providing them with modern, clean facilities for changing and freshening up.
