We are super excited to have reached the first of our fundraising goals! The first stage of fundraising was to ensure we met the baseline requirements of the community sponsorship scheme; the next step is raising enough funds to realistically support the family upon their arrival.
From furniture to language lessons to winter clothing to toys, there are so many expenses a new family coming to the city may encounter. Everything you're able to donate will go towards making their transition smoother; every little really does help!
We are a small Glasgow-based group of volunteers. All over the world, local communities take part in something called community-led welcome, this is an approach to resettling displaced people at the grassroots level.
This approach allows us to sponsor and integrate a refugee family into our local area, taking on some of the responsibilities traditionally carried out by government. We are supported by a network of groups who have carried out the process before, and are also learning as we go along.
An essential part of this process is that we need to raise £20,000 by the end of our first year. This money will go towards the housing, education and other set up costs that are necessary for the family. Anything that you can give will be immensely appreciated, and we are grateful for your support.
