Aim

To create and distribute a relevant, no-nonsense guide to reframing sexist discussions and supporting meaningful change in our communities.

This Ends Now is a volunteer-led organisation, founded on the mission of exposing the everyday patriarchy that is part of our lives and ending gender-based oppression.

In the four years since our first protest in Stroud, Gloucestershire in September of 2022, we have had thousands of conversations about the appalling and alarming way women and girls, and male violence against women and girls, are talked about - in the media, in our pubs, and sometimes even in our homes. We’ve been asked countless times for our advice on how to interrupt this cycle.

Across England and Wales, 1 in 4 women will experience abuse in their lifetime. Statistically, we all know women and girls who have been impacted by male violence against women and girls and it is vital that we end the silence and shame, talk about these issues, and create a world free from gender-based oppression.

In 2025, we surveyed our supporters and heard their message loud and clear: they want to change the narrative about gender-based oppression but they need help getting started. It’s the same story that we hear at events and in messages to our organisation - people want to reframe the conversation and shift the damaging narrative that encourages the poor treatment of women and girls in all parts of our society, but they don’t know how.

We’ve heard over and over that people feel intimidated by loud voices and a sea of ever-changing facts and figures. They lack the confidence to speak up and defend those experiencing gender-based oppression. And worst of all, many of these people feel embarrassed that they feel so intimidated by something as simple as a conversation.

We’re Answering the Call

This Ends Now knows these conversations can be anything but simple. With heightened emotions, hidden agendas in the media, and biases about gender-based oppression surrounding us, it’s easy to understand why people feel uncomfortable and uncertain.

This Ends Now has been part of public discussions on this topic - from panel discussions (including three appearances at the Cheltenham Literature Festival) to podcasts (Should I Delete That with Alex Light and Em Clarkson). Our #WordsMatter campaign has created everything from police reporting guidelines to art exhibits to countless social media discussions.

We’ve heard all the arguments and all the confusion. We’ve listened to all parts of the discussion. We know the hurdles that can prevent healthy, helpful conversations from changing society.

We hear you and we’re here to help.

No one should have to face these conversations alone. If we’re going to change the way we talk about gender-based oppression and how it impacts all of us, we need to work together.

This Ends Now has created a no-nonsense guide filled with facts, definitions, and tips to support everyone having conversations about gender-based oppression. This guide isn’t a script and it’s not meant to be one-size-fits-all. Instead, it provides readers with the chance to form their own thoughts, access pre-vetted facts, and take a guided journey through the words and ideas most commonly used in these discussions.

This guide will be available on a pay-what-you-can model to anyone who needs it, but only if we can raise the money to make that happen.

This Ends Now is a non-profit organisation with no set funding or paid staff. Everything we do is powered by volunteers and donations. Without your help, we won’t be able to do our best to get this guide into the hands of people who need it most.

With your generous donation, we’ll prove that words matter and reframe the conversation. Together, we’re going to change the story of gender-based oppression in the UK.

What we need and what we’ll spend it on

We are looking to raise at least £1,010 in order to aid with the creation, production, and distribution of this guide and to enable TEN’s continued work.

We are a grassroots organisation with no paid staff or funding partners. We haven’t had a fundraising drive in almost 18 months, and we wouldn’t be asking for this money if we didn’t think it was important. We recognise that the cost of living remains very high and we treat every donation like the incredibly thoughtful gift that it is.

This guide is already in the final stages of writing and copy editing. Our volunteers have spent hundreds of hours writing nearly 20,000 words to make this guide as useful and complete as possible, to help as many people as possible. With the donations from this Crowdfunder, we’ll be able to finish and promote it with the level of care it deserves.

  • Graphic Design - up to £500 could be used for design, because we want to compensate the talented folks who bring our words to life.
  • Webhosting - up to £200 could be used to create a dedicated website to host a digital copy of the guide for anyone who wants to access it.
  • Production & marketing - up to £250 could go towards the production of physical copies of the guide and its marketing. While the guide will be available digitally, we also want to create some physical copies to bring to events and give to relevant groups. We would also like the opportunity to create flyers, a banner, and other small marketing materials to promote the guide.
  • Bits and bobs - the rest of the funds could go towards the small things that come up with a project of this scale, which could include unanticipated printing costs, fees for the various platforms and sites we use to manage our work, and other small costs associated with this project.

Every pound we raise will go directly to furthering This Ends Now’s work. With no funding partners and no paid staff, we rely on volunteers for every single social media post, project, training, and paneling. Every donation goes towards furthering This Ends Now’s reach and our ability to help create a world free from gender-based oppression.
