Please help us transform the disused Sir Humphry Davy pub in Penzance into a vibrant arts and social space for the community.

by Redwing Volunteer in Penzance, Cornwall, United Kingdom

We're still collecting donations

On the 19th August 2023 we'd raised £10,683 with 93 supporters in 62 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

 New stretch target

Extra support will help us offer more support to the community.

It will mean our project is more sustainable.

Rent will cost £18,000 per year.

If we raise extra we could carry out refurbishment and perhaps even employ staff to help deliver our services to the community.

  • We need help to start up our activities again, in alternative premises, the disused Sir Humphry Davy pub.
  • Redwing arts and social space in Penzance, Cornwall needs your help.
  • Since 2011 Redwing has provided a unique not-for-profit meeting point for the creative and wider community in West Cornwall.

What’s happening?

  • In October 2023 we had to move out of rented premises being developed by its owner
Redwing is now kickstarting activities in the empty Sir Humphry Davy pub in Penzance.
  • It will cost £18,000 a year just to rent the disused Sir Humphry Davy pub. Then there will be other costs such as utilities on top. This increased cost will leave a devastating gap in our cashflow, jeopardising our Community Interest Company’s long-running support to the community.

What do we want to do?

  • We have consulted our stakeholders and plan to transform the old pub into a new arts and social space within Penzance where we can continue to support the many individuals and groups who already rely on our facilities and where we will reach new members of the community.

We need your help to make this vibrant new arts and social space a reality.

In the building we will be able to offer new and increased activities which will enable people to meet each other, supporting vulnerable and lonely people.

Our free art workshops and community projects will help break down barriers and provide support to those that are struggling with their mental health, having a positive impact on their wellbeing and physical health.

  • Our art exhibitions will support a wide range of artists, including people who may have never previously exhibited their work, increasing self-esteem and livelihoods.1686281192_img_0804.jpeg
  • We will host performances by local and international musicians, including those who want to gain confidence in testing out new work or performing for the first time.1686281078_img_0454.jpeg
  • Inclusive art and craft workshops of all kinds will bring people together to learn new skills and build friendships.1686281500_img_1112.jpeg
  • Affordable studio space will create adaptable work opportunities for local artists and those visiting from other countries.1686281835_img_0829.jpeg
  • We will provide meeting space for cash-strapped community groups and be an important base for local environmental groups.

We will host physical activities like dance, Tai Chi and yoga, which will improve physical health and mental wellbeing.1686281583_img_1405.jpeg
  • We will create a vegan café and alcohol-free bar where people can socialise and access healthy food in a safe space.
  • We will offer volunteering opportunities and training which will help people gain skills and confidence and support people back into work.1686280968_img_1218.jpeg
  • We will run Penzance Community Larder: Saving  good food from going to waste and making free groceries available.1686280851_img_1220.jpeg
  • We will host Penzance Repair Café;  saving items from landfill and sharing repair skills.
  • We would like to set up a Library of Things, where people can borrow tools and equipment which will compliment our Repair Café and save resources.1697752313_img_2299.jpeg
  • We plan to create a new community garden with raised beds and pots and vertical gardening to enrich our surroundings and support pollinators.
  • Please help Redwing to continue supporting our community.
  • We are grateful for every donation, of whatever amount.
  • The number of supporters helps gain match funding, so a donation of as little as £1 helps.
  • Our “all or nothing” fundraiser successfully reached its  £10,000 target.
  • Anything above this target will help ensure the project is sustainable.
  • Please mention our Crowdfunder to as many people as you can and share on social media.
  • Thank you.
