Aim: We are raising match funds to secure a former derelict pub as a Community Asset.

  • Redwing not-for-profit arts & community space needs help to restart activities in alternative premises; the long-disused Sir Humphry Davy pub in Penzance.
  • Since 2011 Redwing has provided a unique not-for-profit meeting point for the creative and wider community in West Cornwall.
  • Now Redwing arts and social space in Penzance, Cornwall needs your help.

What’s happening?

  • In October 2023 Redwing was forced to move out of rented premises being developed by the owner.
  • Redwing needs help to rent, renovate and purchase the long-disused Sir Humphry Davy pub for its community activities whilst raising funds to buy it for the Penzance community in perpetuity.
  • There is a lot of work to do. Help is needed with renovations to make the building safe and comfortable.  Donations will ensure the Community Interest Company’s long-running support to the community continues long into the future..

What do we want to do?

  • This old Penzance pub has  been brought back to life as a unique arts and social space where the many individuals and groups who rely on Redwing’s facilities can continue to receive support and where new members of the community can be reached.
  •  Help is needed to make the renovation of the disused pub to arts and social space a reality.
  • New activities and increased opening hours will enable more, often vulnerable and lonely people to meet each other.
  • Free art workshops and community projects will help break down barriers and provide support to those that are struggling with their mental health, having a positive impact on their wellbeing and physical health.

  • Art exhibitions will support a wide range of artists, including people who may have never previously exhibited their work, increasing self-esteem and livelihoods.1686281192_img_0804.jpeg
  • We will host performances by local and international musicians, including those who want to gain confidence in testing out new work or performing for the first time.1686281078_img_0454.jpeg
  • Inclusive art and craft workshops of all kinds will bring people together to learn new skills and build friendships.1686281500_img_1112.jpeg
  • Affordable studio space will create adaptable work opportunities for local artists and those visiting from other countries.1686281835_img_0829.jpeg
  • Meeting space for cash-strapped community groups will be available. The building will be an important base for local environmental groups.

Space for physical activities like dance, Tai Chi and yoga will improve physical health and mental wellbeing.1686281583_img_1405.jpeg
  •  A vegan café and alcohol-free bar will be available, where people can socialise and access healthy food in a safe space.
  • Volunteering opportunities and training will help people gain skills and confidence and support people back into work.1686280968_img_1218.jpeg
  • The building will host Penzance Community Larder: Saving  good food from going to waste and making groceries freely available.1686280851_img_1220.jpeg
  • Penzance Repair Café will help save items from landfill and enable the community to share repair skills.
  • Redwing would like to set up a Library of Things, where people can borrow tools and equipment which will compliment the Repair Café and save resources.1697752313_img_2299.jpeg

  •  A new community garden, with raised beds, pots and vertical gardening will enrich the surroundings and support birds and pollinators.
  • Please help Redwing to continue supporting the community.
  • Every donation, of whatever amount will help.
  • The number of supporters helps gain match funding, so a donation of as little as £1 really helps.
  • Redwing’s “all or nothing” fundraiser successfully reached its  £10,000 target.
  • Anything above this target will help ensure the project is sustainable and will be used as essential match funding in the plan to save the building for the Penzance community in perpetuity.
  • Please mention this Crowdfunder to as many people as you can and share on social media.
  • Thank you.
