Why are we crowdfunding?

The building which has been home to our community project for 4 years is up for sale and  developers are looming.

We reached our original target of £20,000 and are now aiming for our stretch target of £140,000 to secure a fit-for-purpose long-term base for Redwing to continue.  Without this base, artists excluded by the mainstream art world will have nowhere to show their work and cash-strapped individuals and groups will have nowhere to meet.

A tremendous amount of time and effort and the input of many people has transformed the neglected shell of what was an empty shop into a vibrant and welcoming community hub.

There is no comparable venue in our community with Redwing's inclusiveness and diversity.

2013... a disused, neglected shell.

The ground floor gallery and cafe

After all the work... an art gallery for previously unseen art, affordable studios and a vibrant meeting space. We need it to continue.

If the site is sold to a developer we could be told to leave at very short notice.

We need to raise a lump sum to guarantee stable, long-term premises so that our project can continue.

Why is our project needed?
The mainstream art world excludes many creative people for many reasons. We aim to address this:
REDWING GALLERY is an alternative arts space where artists of all ages and all backgrounds are valued equally.
Redwing's mission: to be inclusive and approachable, supporting all; professional artists, people  with learning difficulties, physical and sensory disabilities and mental health issues as well as people who lack the technical skills, social skills or financial circumstances needed to fit the commercial norm.

Since 2011 we have welcomed thousands of visitors each year to exhibitions by artists from Cornwall and beyond.
Result: improved confidence, self-esteem and incomes for marginalised people.

About Redwing

We are a Community Interest Company, completely run by volunteers since our foundation in 2011.

Volunteers range from younger members of the community to retired people in their eighties.

Redwing believes that creativity brings positive change in people's lives.

Creativity makes people feel happier,  more confident, have higher self esteem, and feel better connected.

Redwing's inclusive  ambiance enables a wide cross section of people to connect and share experience, giving people a chance see things differently and to better understand others.

Please help us secure our future with a long-term, truly inclusive, arts and community space.

This project has been approved for funding through the Artists + The Crowd match funding. It has received a bridge of 25% towards its fundraising target from Arts Council England.
