Providing people with tools to enable them to reclaim the sea as a safe space when it has been one of trauma.
Reclaim The Sea is a newly launched non-profit which provides people with tools to enable them to reclaim the sea as a safe space when it has previously been one of trauma.
In summer 2022, we are starting our first project: teaching eight refugee women to swim and surf in Devon, UK. For many displaced people, the sea is a traumatic, dangerous and scary place. Yet for others, it can be a healing and joyful place.
We want to give every person the opportunity to enjoy the sea as a safe space, regardless of who they are or where they are from. By teaching people to swim and surf, we not only provide them with a way to heal from past sea-related traumas, but also a sustainable source of mental wellbeing support for the future.
We need your support to enable us to run our first project this summer. We're also crowdfunding for future RTS projects and for the expansion of Reclaim The Sea into a model that can be used by individuals and communities living in coastal regions all around the world.
