We are looking to rebuild our changing rooms & toilets to allow everyone to use and enjoy our beautiful space.
Welcome to our Crowdfunder campaign!
West Bretton Cricket Club is an inclusive club, open to all within the local community of West Bretton, Wakefield. The club was originally formed in 1907 and is run solely by volunteers, by a supportive and dedicated committee.
We currently have three senior cricket teams, playing in both the Pontefract and Barnsley Cricket Leagues, as well as offering Junior Cricket for the Under 9’s.
In addition to cricket, we also offer football, with the use of our outfield as a training and match pitch in suitable weather. We formed a Senior Football Team in 2021, which has been a great addition to the club and has already extended to two sides, as well as a new Junior setup with an Under 9’s and Under 10’s team.
We pride ourselves in being a diverse and inclusive club and play an active part within our local community, providing a safe and friendly environment for all. Both our junior football and cricket activities comprise of both girls and boys, of all abilities. We also regularly host parties and this year staged the West Bretton Golden Jubilee Picnic!

We have spent a lot of time and money renovating our facilities in recent years, to help make it feel like a welcoming and great space to come to. Our bar area (vital for functions) has been renovated already, but now we need to focus on our Clubhouse and the facilities that we offer our community, for more people to enjoy. We are therefore running this crowdfunding campaign to fundraise to:
We believe that these improvements will encourage more people to participate in sport and improve our space.
The photographs below show our current toilet areas, often troubled by damp, hence the requirement to change them is paramount:
The money shall all go towards revolutionising our facility. It will remain visually extremely similar, yet futureproof sport and allow the inclusive use of our facility in Bretton for many years to come.
The plans are exciting yet come at a cost. We are fundraising to fulfil the below designs. Total costs are around £80,000. However, we are working hard and are determined to deliver on the project at the earliest opportunity. Thanks to recent improvements and creative use of our space, we have around £40,000 at our disposal. Our crowdfunder campaign is designed to help bridge the gap in this shortfall. We hope to also secure some additional funding through this campaign page from Sport England’s ‘Places and Spaces’ match funding initiative.’ This is truly an inclusive effort and we sincerely hope for this backing.
Our club has very strong links with both the immediate and wider communities of West and South Yorkshire. Our facilities are already used by a large variety of people, whether they are used for sports such as Cricket and Football, or other activities such as parties, after school clubs or holiday clubs.
The club has been used to host many local community gala & fayres and is a central hub within Bretton.
We have also formed close links with several schools and the Yorkshire Cricket Board and County Club, offering them the space to host representative games.
The facilities were used last year to encourage females to participate more in cricket; Yorkshire Ladies CCC used the ground for their training sessions.

The refurbishments and additions that we are aiming to make will help improve our facilities for more people in the local and wider community to enjoy.
Those improvements will encourage people to be more active as the clubhouse can be used for different activities that we cannot cater for at the moment. These activities could range from regular hosting of female cricket, sport for all (including those with a disability) to community meetings, yoga studio and Mums & Tots activity classes.
We hope that by creating a welcoming, accessible and inclusive place and space, it will continue to bring the community together and help celebrate the legacy of the Commonwealth Games for the long-term future.
