As the band celebrates its 125th anniversary year, it is proud to have qualified for the national finals for the first time in 65 years (!) under the baton of its conductor Matthew Ruel.
The band booked its place in the national finals after a second-place finish at the London & Southern Counties regional contest in March 2024.
Bands placing in the top two or three from each region of the country are invited to compete at the national finals which will be held at Cheltenham Racecourse in September.
The band played number one in the fourth section contest in a field of 17 bands who all performed Alan Fernie’s ‘Music for Jock Tamson’.
Adjudicator Helen Douthwaite-Teasdale commented: “Bravo band, a well controlled and characteristic performance with confident playing”.
Adjudicator Leigh Baker said that the band was one of two band's that gave outstanding performances with 4barsrest.com magazine commenting that the band "gave a super show under MD Matthew Ruel off the number 1 draw to deservedly secure their first national final appearance since 1959".
Please join us in making history!
The band and its members have so much to celebrate. Particularly, in view of the many challenges the charity has overcome following the coronavirus crisis. Nevertheless, heightened costs amidst the current financial climate remains a pressing concern, placing a strain on the band's finances.
Now, we're turning to you for support as we embark on our journey to Cheltenham in September. Please join us in making history! All monies raised from this crowdfunding project will help us to cover the cost of: our entry to the national finals; purchasing the set test piece; the hire of tuned percussion equipment for use in rehearsals in the lead-up to the national finals; additional rehearsal space hire; and coach travel to and from Cheltenham.
It is important to note that the band is made up of volunteers and nobody in our charity, including our conductor is paid.
Thank you
The Reading Spring Gardens Brass Band is very appreciative and grateful for your generous support in keeping brass band music-making and the cultural heritage of Reading alive.
