Reading Bike Hub - 10 months in

After an amazing 9 months at the Hub and it's become so much more than we dreamed to continue we need to work with our community to fund it

We've had an amazing 9 months at the hub, and it's so much more than we dreamed. From our bike repairs and bike sales, we launched a hire bike scheme, created a free kids bike library, opened a skatepark in our basement, have resident musicians and artists and have had the most amazing, and hardworking 9 months. 

We've embedded ourself in the highstreet and become a name most people recognise and appreciate. And now we need your help to continue and to grow. 

Our peppercorn rent agreement comes to an end at the end of July we need to figure out how to pay for a commercial unit. We never have enough bikes in for kids so we want to get more paid mechanics in just to support this and we want to create a bigger, better skatepark for our smaller wheeled friends. 

We're in awe of the time and dedication our volunteers have put into make this possible, but we'd love to be able to create more jobs for people who need them. 

The first 9 months have been incredible, but there is so much more we want to achieve. And we need your help to make that possible!

£150 would cover the cost of a mechanic for a day
£30 is roughly how much our electricity costs us a day
£1300 would cover our business rates for a month
£2000 is the insurance for the bike shop 

These costs aren't sexy and glamorous but they are the bills we deal with every day.

We want to get more kids bikes out there, we want to create a skatepark where kids can come and get coached, or at least practice safely in winter - but we need a staff member who can be there for safeguarding and insurance for the skate park will be an extra £5k.

Whatever you can give it would be so gratefully received, we want to be part of reviving the high street, be part of our community and be a space you can come. But to do that we need your support, whether it's from your pocket or your employer has a donation pot they could help with. Let's help our hub become an even bigger part of the community.
