Elect Joe and Nate in Stratford Olympic Park! Joe and Nate are running together as candidates in Newham's 2026 council elections this May.

Four years ago, we made history together.

Back then, you elected Nate and Danny as the first ever Green councillors to sit in Newham's council chamber — ending over 16 years of unbroken and unchecked Labour control in Newham. 

You gave us over 50% of the vote in Stratford Olympic Park – the biggest vote-share for Greens anywhere in London.

We haven’t taken your support for granted.

Here's just some of what Green councillors have delivered for residents in Stratford Olympic Park and across Newham:

🪩 Stopped the MSG Sphere – Our campaigning with the Stop MSG Sphere campaign received national and international media attention and helped persuade Sadiq Khan to block the giant, 90-metre advertising globe next to Stratford station.

🏡 Fought for genuinely affordable homes – Nate passed a motion committing the council to ensure 50% social housing in new developments – paving the way for more genuinely affordable homes. Labour is now trying to go backwards and block this.

🇵🇸 Campaigned for a free Palestine – Joe, Nate, and Danny have campaigned against the Israeli genocide in Palestine, speaking at rallies, vigils, and protests. As part of the council's pensions committee, Nate has fought for transparency and divestment to end Newham's complicity.

🏘️ Won protection for renters – Greens won unanimous council support to bring Stratford Olympic Park into Newham's landlord licensing scheme, giving the council power to hold rogue landlords to account with fines of up to £30,000.

🚔 Fought for safer streets – Over 2,400 residents signed Nate and Danny’s petition to reopen a police hub in East Village to better integrate police into our community and improve response times.

📵 Brought phone thefts down – Undercover police operations suggested by Green councillors and backed by the local ward panel brought phone theft down 40% from its peak.

⚡ Fought for fairer heating costs – Within weeks of being elected, Nate and Danny forced publication of East London Energy's secret 2,000-page contract via FOI, found a hidden clause that could have allowed mid-year price rises, and won a commitment it wouldn't be used. Joe and Nate have kept challenging ELE's high standing charges ever since.

🏛️ Launched an inquiry into the fixed estate charge – Nate is fighting to end the unfair fees some residents are forced to pay, arguing the cost should be shared fairly by all Londoners. Danny passed a motion establishing a scrutiny inquiry into the charges – later blocked by Labour!

🏳️‍⚧️ Defended trans rights in Newham – Nate passed a motion calling for action to protect trans people in Newham, recognising Newham has the highest proportion of trans residents in England and Wales. Danny — Newham's first openly non-binary councillor — has championed trans and LGBTQ+ health on Newham’s health scrutiny committee, and Greens have challenged the Cass review for leaving young people without effective gender-affirming care.

📗 Fought to protect libraries – Labour threatened more than £1m in funding cuts for our local libraries – which would have meant closures and staff redundancies. Joe, Nate, and local people have spoken out to keep our libraries open.

☣️ Passed Zane's Law – Nate's motion made Newham the first council in London to back Zane's Law, protecting communities from unsafe, contaminated land. It passed unanimously.

About us:

🌱 Joe Hudson-Small – A fresh voice for our community

Joe has lived in Newham for eight years and has already been out on the doorstep in Stratford Olympic Park working alongside Nate – listening to residents and fighting for where he calls home. He’s an  IT professional and co-chair of the national Green Party Council.

Joe brings energy, expertise, and deep local roots to this campaign.

At the 2024 General Election, Joe came second in Stratford and Bow — beating the Conservatives, Reform, and the Liberal Democrats combined. 

He knows what residents care about: affordable housing, safer streets, reliable services, fairly priced bills, and a council that actually listens to people.

Joe has been a driving force in our campaigns on East London Energy's high standing charges, against Labour's library cuts, and for building safety in the East Village. He says: "Residents deserve councillors who are visible, accessible, and on their side – not the same old party politics."

💚 Cllr Nate Higgins – Re-elect a councillor who delivers

Nate was elected in 2022 as one of Newham's first ever Green councillors and has worked tirelessly for this ward ever since — holding surgeries every month, responding to residents year-round, and fighting at every level of local government to make Stratford Olympic Park fairer and safer.

His record speaks for itself. But there is still so much more to do — on housing, on crime, in supporting the most vulnerable residents, on the cost of living, and on holding our ‘pay more to get less’ Labour-run council to account.

Nate says: "I grew up understanding what it means to struggle. That's why I fight so hard for every resident in this ward. With Joe and more Green councillors beside me, we can do even more."
