We’re attempting to set a new Guinness world record for the ‘Fastest Theatrical Production’: from first rehearsal to curtain up in 12 hours!
Of all the crazy plans Pamela and the team at RCT have had over the last 15 years of supporting performing arts in Dunblane this one is certainly up there. We’re going to attempt to break the world record for the fastest theatrical production - just 12 hours from opening a box of scripts to curtain up of a full scale show with band, costumes, set, tech, lights etc. - all of which must also be prepped completely within the timescale.
The chance to participate in an experience like this is a once in a lifetime chance for everyone involved - on stage, backstage, making costumes, in the band and in any of the many many other roles that we'll need on the day. It's certainly going to be a special day and the excitement amongst our little performing arts family is huge already. In line with our ethos at RCT we are trying to keep the costs to particpate as low as possible, however it turns out that an event such as this is hugely expensive to put on.
To give you an idea, between the cost of hiring the theatre, sound, lights etc and having a judge from Guinness attend to verify the record, we're already at a cost of £12,000 before we even start on costumes (the attempt must be fully costumed) staging, props, tshirts, the licence for the show (all shows cost a percentage of ticket sales to perform etc etc etc etc)
To try and make this possible, without impacting on the many other activities we offer at RCT, we are aiming to fund this through:
Ticket Sales - although we are selling tickets to see the performance, even if we sold every seat at the Macrobert full price, this would still only bring in about £6500, (of which the rights holders take 20%). Tickets for the show can be bought direct from the Macrobert website and will be available soon.
Corporate Sponsorship - we are hoping to offer local businesses the chance to support our attempt and have a number of attractive sponsorship packages available. If you have any contacts who may want to get on board just let us know!
Registration Fee - we are trying to keep this as low as possible, but hope that everyone involved will be happy to cover the cost of participating. This fee will also include t-shirt, certificate etc.
If you've made it this far you already know we're attempting to crowdfund! We're very aware that we could have made participation costs significantly higher and still have filled places several times over. That however goes against our ethos of trying to offer performing arts experiences (and all the benefits they bring) for as little as possible (without going bankrupt!). So we've set up this page in the hope that maybe, if you feel we could have charged a wee bit more, or if you can't take part but would still like to support, or for our further afield supporters who love what we do and recognise the worthwhile role we play in building a confident and supportive performing arts community in Dunblane, you might manage to help us out with a wee bit extra. We'll be hugely grateful for every penny!
This project is budgeted to break even - any excess will be used to offer additional funded spaces to those who may need them in our other activities.
Either way, thank you so much for your time, support and involvement. The RCT family is a special one... as one of our adults once said: we may not live together, but we live, together.
