STRETCH TARGET UPDATE!
The love and support for this project is incredible! With your help, we've fixed the plumbing, have a commercial dishwasher on order and the toilets areon their way to being a lot more pleasant (and less lime green) than they were before - there's plaster on the walls and our amazing team of volunteers have been painting like there's no tomorrow.
With less than a week to opening, we've (I think) over 35 people in today to help for our last big diy day. To paint, clean, clear, sort and rig tech. It's going to be a big day. I've updated our stretch target one last time - having so many volunteers is wonderful, and it's been lovely seeing how our teens particularly are invested in bringing the building back to life. The one unforseen impact though is that the floors have taken a bit of a beating . . . it would be fair to say that so much painting by so many people at once, with varying levels of experience and neatness has had an impact (and tbh, they were uuuuugly anyway!) so with our last stretch target we'd like to start replacing some of the carpet in the building, it really would make a huge difference.
UPDATE: We've been blown away by your support - both in msgs, comments, offers of DIY help, support, and of course, financial. We've made huge inroads in getting the building ready for opening mid November, and are excited to see all the community interest in coming back to the Cowane as well as all the Rubber Chicken family who've been in painting, cleaning, clearing and more.
As we work in the building, we keep finding new things that need replaced, or fixed, or things that end up being more expensive than originally budgeted for. As such, we've increased our original target, to try and get more aspects of the building ready for opening.
Things we'd like to cover with this stretch target are:
- a refurbished commercial dishwasher
- refurb of the toilet spaces (not quite as comfortable and pleasant as we'd like!)
- kitchen kit. We've had to rip out the existing bits there as they weren't salvageable sadly
There's lots of other more theatrey things too, but for our stretch target, these are what we're focussing on - cafe and toilets are a vital part of any community space!

As Rubber Chicken Theatre approaches 20 years of performing across Dunblane ad beyond we are delighted to announce that with the support, knowledge and generous investment of a number of our parents, we have today picked up the keys for The Cowane. A new and exciting forever home for our performing arts family, and a place where we can build on our community ethos to grow a creative space for RCT and beyond.
Many of you will know The Cowane Centre – with a theatre, many multipurpose rooms, café and more, it has held a place in the heart of Stirling for a huge number of years. Having been closed and put up for sale, we are delighted to be able to bring the building back in to community use and are looking forward not only to being able to give RCT a permanent theatrical home, but to working with other arts, creative and community groups who may wish to use the space.
This is a massively exciting moment for RCT, and we hope that you will all share our excitement as we move house, and bring the building back – it’s been sitting empty for a while, so we’ll need all the help we can get!
Your support will help pay for the many many things that we need to do, buy, support and build to bring The Cowane back into use. We've included several rewards below, but anything you are able to donate is massively appreciated. With everything from bins, to blackouts, risk assessments to signage, to costume bags and beyond the list is endless and evergrowing.
Everyone who supports our crowdfunder in anyway will be acknowledged in our displays about the building and it's transformation. Several rewards (primarily our 'adopt a theatre seat') come with a plaque on the seat itself.
If you have an questions, ideas, or offers of support in other ways, please do just get in touch!
