Aim

To raise funds for a community van, as over a month after Zipcar closed our volunteer-led project is struggling without reliable transport.

Who we are

Rotherhithe Community Kitchen & Food Hub (RCK) is a volunteer-led community project based in Southwark. We were created by local people who believe in neighbours supporting one another with care, dignity and respect.

For the past two years, our volunteers have been running the project five days a week, supporting families across Rotherhithe, Surrey Docks, Bermondsey and wider Southwark.

We have over 70 volunteers, with around 20 people active each day, giving more than 600 hours of volunteering every week.

What we do

Each week, we:

Support 500+ families

Redistribute large quantities of good-quality surplus food

Work with schools, nurseries, TRAs, churches and community groups

Support elderly and housebound residents who cannot travel

Our spaces are warm and welcoming. People come not just for food, but to feel seen, respected and part of a community.

Why we are fundraising

Transport is essential to everything we do collecting food, moving supplies, and delivering support to families and community partners.

For over a month now, since Zipcar closed, our project has been struggling without reliable access to a van. What once allowed us to move food safely and efficiently is no longer available, and this has made our work much harder for volunteers and more uncertain for the families who rely on us. Having our own community van would give us stability and peace of mind, and help us continue our work safely, reliably and with dignity.

What a community van will help us do

Having our own van will, Make daily food collections and deliveries more reliable, Reduce pressure on volunteers, Improve food safety and efficiency, Help ensure the long-term sustainability of our project. Quite simply, it will help us keep going and help us reach more neighbours with dignity.

Community support so far

We have already been deeply encouraged by the generosity shown:

£4,000 donated by Bestone / Halai General Store, Rotherhithe street, SE16 5SW

£500 donated by Coca-Cola and Nando’s (via Bestone)

£1,250 donated by a kind local resident

These contributions reflect the trust and belief people have in this project.

How you can help

We are now crowdfunding to raise the remaining amount needed to buy our own community van. Any donation, big or small, will help. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page also makes a real difference. Every share helps kindness travel further.

Thank you for supporting a community-led project built on care, dignity and neighbours helping neighbours.

With gratitude,

Rotherhithe Community Kitchen, Food Hub and Food Education Workshop.
