By now people will have seen the devastation that a fire at Budgens of Holt has caused. The supermarket, alongside the Post Office, has been a key employer for the town. It has left those who have served its local community so tirelessly during the coronavirus outbreak - and indeed for years and decades before - without employment.

The staff at both the shop and the Post Office have worked so hard to provide a lifeline to our town. They've kept shelves stocked, provided local deliveries to the elderly and most vulnerable, and worked around the clock to see this north Norfolk town through the good times and the bad.

Moreover, Budgens has served Holt for thirty-five years, with community and charity at the centre of its ethos.

How you can help

This Crowdfunder has been established hours after the fire that has destroyed the store, but the aim will be for the proceeds to be used to show support for the staff and to thank them all for their help during lockdown and over the many years the store has been around.

It is not associated with the supermarket in any way - it was created by members of the local community.

A discussion will be had with the management, when appropriate, to discuss the best way for the money to be used.

Please note: This is not designed to be a substitute for financial support for employees that we hope both government and councils will be able to provide, but as a separate initiative that can boost morale in the weeks and months to come.

Please consider donating

This is an opportunity for Holt to show its support and gratitude to all those who worked behind the scenes at the store. Whether you shop here or not, everyone knows someone locally who will be impacted.

Not everyone will be fortunate enough to be able to give, and some donations might be small, but as a community we can make something happen.

If you cannot donate, please consider sharing.
