We need to fund the raising of the sudden, fallen roof of The Chapel in order to be able to start our planned restoration of the building.
Cottage Green Chapel is part of The Well Church in Camberwell.
It was built in 1844 and as well as being a church building it has been used for charity start ups, a nursery, children's groups, community cafe's, youth groups, art exhibitions, local meetings and much more.
The Well is on the journey of restoring the Chapel into its former beauty with plans for a permanent community cafe, venue and room rental space. The plans are currently waiting permission from Southwark Council when disaster struck with part of the roof falling in.
We now need to raise the roof before any of our plans of restoration of The Chapel can begin.
Can you give funds to help us to do the emergency work to this building of local interest in Camberwell. Insurance money may pay for some of the damage done by the fallen beam but insurance does not cover bad victorian workmanship in order for us to put everything back together!
See the article below in Southwark News explaining how the beam has fallen in due to the wrong size being put up 180 years ago!
All money received will be spent on raising the roof of this local building of interest so then, following the roof repair, it can be fully restored. Thank you.
