Help raise the New Union Flag as a vibrant celebration of diversity, migration, and shared heritage in the centre of Brighton and Hove!
Join artist Gil Mualem-Doron in reimagining one of Britain’s most iconic symbols — the Union Jack — as a vibrant celebration of diversity, migration, and shared heritage. The New Union Flag is created from fabrics and patterns originating from communities across the world that have shaped Britain’s multicultural identity.
This living artwork transforms a symbol often associated with division into one of unity and inclusion. Through public workshops, exhibitions, and performances, Mualem-Doron invites people from all backgrounds to co-create new versions of the flag — each telling a story of belonging and coexistence.
The upcoming exhibition at the Jubilee Library in December 2025 features puppets crafted by refugees and migrants, made using traditional textile designs in collaboration with Jollof Café, Pegasus Puppetry and Arts, Creativity Calling, and the Socially Engaged Art Salon. Together, these works express resilience, creativity, and community.
