QUENCH 2 - BACK IN THE HABIT

Aim
Our aim for 2022 is to continue to support and exhibit artists whilst developing an accessible and creative hub for the community.
Quench was opened in 2021 with the aim of giving artists and curators an opportunity to develop new work and put on exhibitions in Margate. We conceived this venture as we both really love housing artists and really want to help them to create amazing shows. And, with so many cuts and job losses due to the pandemic, we wanted to try and add a bit of optimism to the artistic outlook and try to keep artists invigorated and in work. Over 2021 we have managed to put on 15 exhibitions, YES 15, exhibiting over 24 artists. In addition to this, we have also hosted music nights, performances and the POW Thanet fundraiser.
Our main aim is to pay artists to put on small shows. In 2021, we paid over £35,000 to artists and creatives who helped to run the space. In addition to this, all profits from any sales went directly to the artists that put on the shows. Although it has been difficult to juggle with both of our own practices and we definitely have struggled to get the perfect gallery formula; it's been an honour to watch all these amazing artists develop their ideas and execute such dynamic and thoughtful shows. We feel so lucky to have worked with them all.
And....Luckily for you...they have all been so kind as to each design an exclusive print that has been hand screen printed with the incredible independent printers HUNK in Sheffield. We believe in affordability and art for all, so each A2 print will cost £85. A bargain.
We are still very aware that this is not a feasible business venture. But it isn't really a business and we have no desire to make profit. This is about artists supporting fellow artists and taking agency into their own hands.
Also over the past year, we have been so thankful for the unending support from the Margate community. It has been such a joy to see so many of you turning up and supporting the artists and us as well. When we envisioned Quench, we didn't know it would become what it has... but although running a not for profit is super tough and we definitely aren't perfect, we really want to be here to stay.
