Perched over the river by Palmers Brewery, "Queenie" has entertained locals and visitors for 3 years but, sadly, she's now corroded and unsafe.
The dog was voted the town's favourite sculpture and is loved and admired by everyone, even those who say they don't like modern art!
The "stalking dog"was modelled on sculptor Greta Berlin's family's dog Queenie. With Bridport Town Council Cleo Evans curated Bridport's sculpture trail including Greta's artworks around the town. Cleo and local writer Ros Huxley are now volunteering to raise £6000 for a new, permanent sculpture. This will pay for the construction of a mould, a casting in strong resin, and secure fixings. The money will also include a fee for Greta who, up to now, has loaned all her artworks to Bridport for free.
Crossing the brewery bridge we stop to admire the black dog and the bubbling river. We "paws" for thought, then carry on to the school, leisure centre or Morrisons, revived by a reminder of how important dogs are; alert, intelligent, loyal and dependable.
Please help us bring back Queenie, as a permanent landmark for generations to come.
In return, we're offering some gorgeous original dog sketches by Greta. They are totally unique and could look fantastic on your wall. Each is different. Your chance to own an original artwork by a renown South West artist. Read more about Greta at https://www.gretaberlinsculpture.com
"Love forever stays in Bridport with Queenie the stalking dog sculpture. Please donate and keep her and art alive for us all and our kids."
