At the Quaker Meeting House / Venue 40, we work hard every year to create the best Fringe experience we can, for our companies, audiences and volunteers. Our venue is run by staff who work here all year round - every August they turn their hands from running the building as a place of worship and room hire business, to running a theatre in the heart of the biggest Arts festival in the world. They are ably assisted by a fantastic team of enthusiastic volunteers from far and wide.
Our enviable location just off the Royal Mile, and our not-for-profit ethos of community spirit and raising money for charities, attracts a wide range of performers, and we're delighted that many companies return to us year after year. We are particularly pleased that youth companies value us as a safe, welcoming space. So it was with a heavy heart that we had to give everyone the disappointing news that Fringe 2020 could not take place.
We're determined to be back next year, and we'd love to improve our facilities to provide an even better experience. For example, £2000 could help to replace our ageing theatre drapes, which were top of our list for 2021 as part of our rolling programme of maintenance/upgrading. The lack of a Fringe in 2020 means that won't happen without your help.
If we raise more than £2000, we will put that towards improving our accessibility and meeting the as yet unknown requirements of the post-Covid world.
We have a reputation for being 'an oasis of calm' in the the Fringe's busy heart (if we'd had a pound for every time someone has said that, we wouldn't have to fundraise!) and we believe that we offer something distinctive.
Please support our appeal, and come and say hello in August 2021!
