Aim

Help secure my shop lease and keep a creative repair, embroidery and vintage space alive in Brighton.

Hi, I’m Jennifer... the face usually hiding behind a rail of vintage or a piece of embroidery thread 🧵✨

I run I’d Wear That, a Brighton-based sustainable fashion shop and working studio built around one simple idea:

Clothes deserve a second life.

Right now, I have the opportunity to take on the lease of the shop space where I already work from. My co-tenant is moving on, and to keep the space alive, I need to secure the lease in my own name.

The only hurdle? The deposit and legal fees.

Rather than let the space go dark, I’m asking for help from the community that has supported my work so far.

🌿 What I Do

I’d Wear That is:

  • A vintage clothing shop
  • An embroidery “tattoo parlour” for clothes
  • A repair and visible mending studio
  • A space where old garments become wearable art
  • A place to learn how to sew, mend and upcycle

Everything I do is about slowing fashion down and keeping textiles out of landfill.

This isn’t fast fashion.
It’s slow, thoughtful, and stitched with care.

🏡 Why This Space Matters

This shop isn’t just retail.

It’s a working studio you can see from the street.
It’s conversations about sustainability.
It’s people bringing in beloved clothes instead of throwing them away.
It’s creativity happening in real time.

If I can secure the lease, the space will:

  • Stay open and active
  • Continue offering repairs and embroidery
  • Host workshops and community sessions
  • Potentially provide workspace for another local creative

Without it, I risk losing the physical heart of the business.

🎯 What The Funds Will Cover

The crowdfunding target will go directly towards:

  • Lease deposit
  • Legal/admin costs
  • Basic stability cushion for the first months of sole tenancy

This isn’t about expansion — it’s about continuity and keeping something special alive.

🎁 Rewards

Supporters can choose from:

  • Embroidery vouchers
  • Custom embroidery
  • Repair sessions
  • Workshop tickets
  • Your name stitched into a community textile piece in the shop

Every pledge helps secure the future of the space.

💬 Why I’m Asking

I’ve built this business slowly and independently, with 20 years in fashion behind me and a belief that we can do things differently.

If you’ve ever:

  • Bought vintage instead of new
  • Had something repaired instead of replaced
  • Believed in independent shops
  • Or just love a good embroidery…

This is your chance to help keep one open.

Thank you for reading.
Thank you for caring about small businesses.
And thank you for helping clothes get the second life they deserve.

With love,
Jennifer
