To generate funds to support the making of WYSDIB, a short film with a Bristol based cast and crew from writer/director Myles Kamwendo.
Why You Shouldn't Date In Bristol is a short comedy drama film written by Myles Kamwendo. Myles is a Welsh-born, Bristol-raised actor currently starring as one of the five leads in BBC Three’s Boarders. He is also set to appear in The Entertainment System Is Down, the latest film from two-time Palme d’Or winner and Academy Award nominee Ruben Östlund, alongside Daniel Brühl, Kirsten Dunst, and Keanu Reeves. Myles holds a deep affinity for storytelling and directing, with a growing passion for bringing narratives to life both in front of and behind the camera.
Logline: 'As friendships and relationships collide in a Bristol bar, a young man learns the hard truths about love, humanity and self-discovery'
WYSDIB is a story we can all relate to. It may not mirror the events of this story, but we've all been there — creating the perfect person in our minds. We've stepped into someone else's world and seen them for who they truly are, and that moment can go one of two ways.
Through the art of comedy, we want audiences to embrace the beauty of human imperfection. The perfect partner doesn’t exist — and that’s okay. We shouldn't judge someone for their flaws, because that’s where the real beauty lies.
Aruna Jalloh will be playing the lead role of Jay. Aruna is an Olivier-nominated actor, acclaimed for his powerful and nuanced performance in the groundbreaking play For Black Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When the Hue Gets Too Heavy. Known for his compelling presence and emotional depth, Aruna brings a fresh and exciting energy to every role he inhabits. He currently stars as one of the five leads in BBC Three’s Boarders, portraying the complex ‘Femi’.
We are working with a locally based cast and crew of up and coming filmmakers who are all excited about being involved in the project despite the low budget. Our goal is to lift up Bristol talent and create a film every member of crew feels proud of. We are crowdfunding to pay for certain locations and for food, drink and travel for the production.
