Help us take The Difference a Year Makes to its next stage!

Hi! I’m Amy Morvell, Director of Morvell Dance, and we’ve decided to launch a Crowdfunder to raise £2,000 towards the next stage of making The Difference a Year Makes — while also creating more opportunities for young dancers and local communities to be part of the work.

About the show

Over the past two years, I have gathered real stories from women about change, challenge, resilience and transformation.

These honest, funny, surprising and sometimes difficult conversations form the heart of The Difference a Year Makes. The work asks what connects us through our experiences of change, at a time of rising costs, political uncertainty and a rapidly changing world. Alongside the challenges, it also finds humour, solidarity and hope.

Three experienced and diverse performers bring these stories to life through contemporary dance and verbatim text. They work with the interviewees’ real voices, translating their words, experiences and personalities into live physical performance with care, precision and energy.

Why we need your support

We have already spent time researching and developing the work, and now we need to take the next step into production and further creation.

Raising £2,000 will help us get back into the studio for a dedicated production week, allowing us to develop the work further and move it closer to being ready to share with audiences.

But the next stage isn't just about what happens on stage.

As the professional work grows, so do the opportunities to bring young people into the process.

We want to create opportunities for young dancers to work alongside professional artists through workshops, creative projects and performance opportunities connected to the show.

These experiences will give young people the chance to:

• Work alongside professional dancers and artists
• Gain insight into the creative process and professional dance industry
• Build confidence and develop their creative voice
• Experience what it is like to contribute to the making of a professional dance work
• Connect with other young dancers and artists in a supportive environment

We are particularly passionate about creating opportunities for young people here in the SE region, helping to nurture local talent and give emerging dancers meaningful experiences that could support their future careers in the arts.
