Our Show

A quirky detective trained in solving the mysteries and complexities of love and desire, tackles what might just be his most unsolvable case yet: why did Connor's Hinge date leave him on read? An offbeat detective parody tackling some of the biggest problems in the modern world; clowns, magicians and... dating apps!

Have you ever been tormented by love, ghosting, or a questionable magician? Have you ever lacked the clarity you desperately needed from a first date? If love has ever twisted your heart so much that you’ve wished you could just hire a private investigator to find out why they won’t text you back, then this is the show for you!

Our satirical comedic play, Detective Heartbreak, pays homage to classic styles of comedy while tackling the modern dating crisis. With a playful attitude towards gender and sexuality, this show will take you one step closer to solving the mystery at the heart of contemporary romance. 

About Us

Written and Directed by Lewis Cooper and Assistant Directed by Isabella Edwards-Martinelli, the play was first performed at the University of Glasgow in February 2026 during New Works Festival and won the judges' pick. Dating back to at least 1922, Student Theatre at Glasgow is the oldest and largest student theatre society in Scotland. STAG broke out of Glasgow in 1957 with their first performance at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and has had multiple sellout shows since. Throughout the year STAG facilitates a hub for young creatives in Glasgow to explore their passion for theatre in an environment where community is at the heart of our projects.

Each year STAG aims to offer our members the exciting opportunity to take a show to Edinburgh Festival Fringe. However, the increasing unaffordability of the festival combined with the fact we receive little to no funding from the university means that we tend to struggle with covering essentials such as venue, accommodation and marketing costs. It is no secret that substantial funding for creative projects is difficult to come by, so with that said every penny truly counts and we would be immensely grateful for your support whilst we strive to continue this invaluable experience for aspiring theatre makers at the University of Glasgow.
