Aim

After a party leaves one girl shattered. A chilling conversation between friends unravels the truth neither of them are ready for.

All That Glitters follows Grace and Emma, two best friends at a turning point in their lives. Both 18, both navigating the blurred, messy space between girlhood and adulthood, where they’re trying to figure out who they are and who they trust.

It’s early November - cold nights, cheap house parties and university deadlines. The story begins the week after a Halloween party in a small town in Cornwall. Emma calls Grace in distress and reveals that something happened to her at the party - something she doesn’t fully remember, something she can’t make sense of and something she’s been too scared and ashamed to talk about. As Grace tries to support her, we explore the realities of sexual assault through the lens of friendship: the shame, the confusion, the freezing and the spiralling self-blame that so many survivors experience.

Rather than focusing on police and legal systems, the film stays intimate and grounded: focusing on the hours after a confession and two girls simply trying to navigate something bigger than either of them. The twist isn’t revealed here, but it tests everything Grace thinks she knows about loyalty, trust and the people she lets into her life. Though the story contains darkness, it’s ultimately about resilience, survival and the quiet bravery it takes to speak up.

Director’s Statement

I’m making this film because I believe stories about sexual assault need to be told differently, with more focus on survivors’ lived realities rather than courtroom drama, sensationalised trauma or statistics. This is not a story about the legal system or revenge; It’s a story about the immediate response of what happens when someone wakes up with a memory they can’t escape and only one person they feel safe enough to tell.

I’m wrote this story because it explores the parts of sexual assault that rarely make it into media: the freeze response, the fragmented memory, the self-blame and the awkwardness of disclosure. It’s told in a raw and honest manner - it’s messy in the way real life is messy.

I chose this genre - grounded, intimate drama - because it allows us to sit with the characters, rather than viewing them as spectacles. I want to create space for the audience to feel the discomfort, the confusion, the fear and the love between these girls. I also want to highlight female friendship in a way that feels honest - the kind where your friend is the only person who can pull you out of something heavy. Not perfect solidarity or cliché empowerment, but the quiet, genuine support that helps you get through things you can’t handle alone. It’s about how friends carry each other when no one else knows what’s going on and a situation that forces them to grow up faster than they should.

Films like this matter now more than ever, especially as so many young people still don’t understand the dynamics of consent in a culture full of mixed messages and silence. If we don’t show what these situations actually look like, people won’t understand how easily they happen.

As a director, I’m committed to keeping the film grounded, respectful and impactful. I know these characters and the world they live in. I know exactly how I want this story to look, feel and be told. If you support this project, you’re helping us make something that could genuinely open eyes and start important conversations.
