To secure post-production and initial license/usages funding, for a feature length documentary film on the legendary music icon, Guy Stevens

THE FILM:
The Apostle of Rock & Roll – The Last Testament of Guy Stevens is a feature length documentary that will tell the story of one of the most influential but often overlooked figures in British music – trailblazing writer, catalyst, R&B DJ, label boss, A&R Man, Svengali, record producer and force of nature - Guy Stevens.
First bitten by the rock and roll bug when he heard Jerry Lee Lewis’ ‘Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On’ while still at school in the late 1950s, Guy’s obsessive collecting and importing of rare US blues, rock and roll and soul records led to a legendary DJ spot at The Scene club in Soho - spinning the latest American rock and roll and R&B sounds to an attentive audience that would include The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Who, The Small Faces, The Animals and Eric Clapton.
This brought him to the attention of Island Records’ Chris Blackwell, who brought Guy in to run the UK Sue Records label, before shaping Island Records pink label era, moving into production work in his own inimitable style with Spooky Tooth, Free, Traffic and Mott the Hoople – the latter conceived by Guy as a vehicle for his rock & roll vision.
By the start of the 1970s Guy found himself ostracized by the record industry and struggled with drug and alcohol addiction through much of the decade, until The Clash sought him out to bring his wild spirit to their triumphant third album, London Calling in 1979, which proved to be Guy’s swan song.
Through testimonials from friends, family and associates, Guy’s personal journals, archive and a soundtrack full of the music Guy loved and was involved with, we hope to make a film that documents the highs and lows of a uniquely talented individual who helped shape and influence the UK music scene in the sixties, the seventies and beyond.
In the words of BP Fallon, “In rock & roll there are some people whose name is not necessarily designed to be on the billboard, but they should have temples built to them, and Guy Stevens is one of these people!”
Estimated run time: 100 minutes

CROWDFUNDING:
We need your help completing the film so it sees the light of day!
We’ve already completed 95% of the filming and much of the editing. Before we considered crowdfunding, it was important to us that we felt we had a special film on our hands - which thankfully, we do!
We now need to raise funds to help cover all music and archive licensing costs, as well post-production costs (including animation & graphic visuals). Our goal is to submit the film into both UK and international film festivals later this year, followed by TV broadcast and streaming platforms.
Guy’s story is one that is close to our hearts, he’s been involved in so much of the music that has greatly enriched ours and many other lives.
All crowdfunding contributions are greatly appreciated, and not only will you be helping ensure the film gets made, but all crowdfunding donations will also receive limited edition film merchandise – see below.
If you can’t donate, please help by sharing the crowdfunding campaign and promo wherever you can, to help us spread the word.
