More Than a Meal – Kings Heath Community Kitchen

Aim

To provide food, practical support and a welcoming community space where anyone can access help, connection and support without judgement.

Kings Heath Community Kitchen exists because nobody in our community should have to face difficult times alone.

Based in Kings Heath, Birmingham, we are a volunteer-led community organisation providing a safe, welcoming and judgement-free space for anyone who needs support.

What started as a simple idea to provide a hot meal and somewhere people could feel welcome has grown into something much bigger. Today, we support people experiencing homelessness, financial hardship, isolation and other difficult circumstances by providing practical help, connection and access to support.

Through our regular Sunday Community Kitchen sessions and weekly Wednesday drop-ins, we provide free hot meals, clothing, essential and hygiene items, tea and coffee, one-to-one support, advice and signposting to other organisations and services.

But sometimes the most important thing we provide is much simpler: somewhere to sit down, have a cup of tea, talk to someone and know that somebody is listening.

We believe that asking for help shouldn't be complicated. There are no lengthy forms, no referral needed and no judgement. People can simply walk through our doors and be welcomed.

Since opening, our incredible volunteers have given thousands of hours to supporting our community. Together, we have served thousands of meals, distributed clothing and essential items, supported people experiencing homelessness and helped individuals access accommodation and other vital services.

Our support doesn't always stop when our sessions finish either. Where we can, we continue working with individuals and families to help them overcome the challenges they are facing and connect them with the right support.

But we cannot do any of this without funding.

Kings Heath Community Kitchen is powered by volunteers and the generosity of individuals, businesses and organisations that believe in what we are trying to achieve.

Every donation, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Your support helps us buy food, provide essential items, run our sessions, support people in crisis and, most importantly, keep our doors open.
