September 2026 marks 10 years since the very first Clean Up Bristol Harbour.
For a decade, volunteers have been getting out onto the water to remove floating litter from places that can't easily be reached from the harbourside – helping protect wildlife and care for one of Bristol's most loved waterways.
Between 2021 and 2023 alone, 236 volunteers removed more than 880kg of waste, with almost 390kg sent for recycling.
Now we need Bristol's help to keep it going.
Why we need your support
Clean Up Bristol Harbour is now run by local charity All Aboard Watersports, but our current project funding is coming to an end.
Without new support, we'll only be able to run a limited number of further community clean-ups.
So rather than allowing our 10th anniversary to mark the end, we want it to mark the beginning of the project's next chapter.
What your donation will make possible
Our initial £5,000 target will help keep Clean Up Bristol Harbour running over the next 12 months, paying for:
- qualified instructors to safely lead volunteers on the water;
- boats, fuel and running costs;
- litter-picking and safety equipment;
- organising and supporting volunteers; and
- monitoring the litter we remove.
The more we raise, the longer we can keep the project running.
Taking action for our waterways
Bristol's Floating Harbour stretches for around three miles through the heart of the city. Plastic, packaging and other rubbish regularly find their way into the water, where they can harm wildlife or travel downstream into the River Avon, Severn Estuary and wider marine environment.
Our volunteers can get onto the water to reach litter that's difficult to collect from land.
But it's about more than rubbish. Clean Up Bristol Harbour gives people a practical way to take action for nature, meet others, spend time outdoors and experience Bristol from a completely different perspective – from the water.
By bringing people together to care for the harbour, we're also building a community that feels connected to and takes responsibility for its local environment – increasingly important as our climate and environment change.
