Help us create Queer Britain Museum’s new exhibition displays for 2026! We're crowdfunding to create six brand new themed displays of underrepresented stories and to showcase Queer Britain’s growing collection of fascinating artefacts documenting LGBTQ+ life in the UK.
At the moment, we lack the display cases, hardware and gallery infrastructure needed to create our new exhibition. We take pride in caring for the artefacts entrusted to us, but this comes with a cost when making them accessible for all to see.
Our exhibition will shine a spotlight on the incredible contribution that queer people have made to society - at a time when queer perspectives are being silenced, queer history actively erased, and queer rights chipped away. Yet, right when it is more important than ever to educate and inform about LGBTQ+ people’s lives, many organisations are pulling back from supporting LGBTQ+ initiatives in the wake of attacks on “DEI”. At the same time, charities across the board are struggling to make ends meet, and the competition for major grant funding has never been greater.
The Clothworkers Foundation have very generously offered us a grant of £10,000 to start things off, and to complete the full set of new exhibition displays, we need to raise an additional £20,000. So we’re here to ask the LGBTQ+ Community – our community – to help bring even more stories to the public eye.
Queer Britain will never cease to champion LGBTQ+ people's experiences, struggles and achievements but we urgently need your help to bring our new exhibition to life. As a charity that receives no core funding, we rely on the support of our community, as LGBTQ+ people have always done.
And if that wasn't enough of a reason to support us, we have some fantastic prizes on offer!

Each display will be centred around a theme connected to an area of queer culture and heritage. The themes will stay the same, but the stories told will shift and change much like the ever-evolving LGBTQ+ community.
RESIST!
Exploring the many and varied activist movements, groups, and individuals that have fought for our rights and pursued a better world for us all.
CLUB KIDS
Highlighting the ways in which LGBTQ+ people and our sub-cultures have come together outside of mainstream social settings.
QUEER CREATIVITY
Showcasing queer artists across music, cinema, poetry, visual arts, literature and exploring the ways LGBTQ+ lives have been represented through the arts.
BODY AND MIND
Unpacking queer experiences of health, illness, and disability from the good to the bad, and challenging what we think we know about queerness.
LIVE, LAUGH, LOVE
Sharing the everyday, but unheard, stories of queer life through the lens of family, home, and domesticity.
THE WORLD AROUND US
Looking the place of LGBTQ+ people in wider British society and stories of individuals who have made great strides in the face of structural adversity.

With support from some incredible queer individuals, organisations and allies, we are offering a total of six prizes - one for each theme in the exhibition - plus Queer Britain merch for 100 lucky individuals.
01. CLUB KIDS: Win Two VIP Tickets to Mighty Hoopla 2026!
If there’s one thing the queer community knows how to do, it’s throw a party! Join the revelers at Europe’s biggest and boldest LGBTQ+ festival as it enters its 10th year. Started by Glynn Fussell, organiser of club collective Sink the Pink, Mighty Hoopla has become a much-loved staple for many queer people, with previous headliners including the Sugababes, Chaka Khan and Jessie Ware. We are so grateful to Glynn and the Hoopla team for donating this prize.
02. RESIST! Four prints of extremely rare 90s queer protest art by Chris Holland, designer for activist group OutRage!.
Founded in 1990, OutRage! was a direct-action group that fought for the rights and freedoms of queer people through radical, non-violent protest and civil disobedience. Their slogans are synonymous with the era and helped reclaim the word “queer” as a badge of pride. Chris Holland created the original Queer as F*** T-Shirt alongside many iconic designs which are now stored in the Queer Britain collection, four of which have been reproduced in high quality for the first time in this unique prize!
03. QUEER CREATIVITY: Love film? Celebrate a truly historic moment of queer creativity with a Festival Pass to the 40th edition BFI Flare, the largest LGBTQ+ film festival in Europe.
Founded in 1986 at a time when queer people were attacked by the government and media, BFI Flare (previously the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival) is a place where queer people can tell their own stories through creative arts and self-expression. This season pass will guarantee you access to 10 films (pre-booking is required and only one ticket may be used per film).
04. BODY AND MIND: Nourish your brain with a selection of seven queer books curated by Canongate Press, worth £90 RRP.
Canongate is a fiercely independent publisher who work tirelessly to unearth and promote unorthodox, exciting and vital perspectives. They have curated a collection of their most thought-provoking LGBTQ+ writers spanning fiction, poetry and non-fiction. Hot off the press, they’ve included a signed copy of Damian Barr’s new novel The Two Roberts, which will be published on the 4th September.
05. LIVE, LAUGH, LOVE: Decorate your home with three gorgeous prints by queer photographer Ira Giorgetti while you and your chosen family sample brand-new cocktail mixes from LGBTQ+ owned drinks brand Madame F.
Ira Giorgetti, whose work has been shortlisted for the Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize and British Photography Awards, was a key artist participant in the Pride Inside campaign which allowed queer people to express pride from the safety of their homes during the COVID-19 shutdown. His personal photography captures fleeting, unguarded moments of intimacy with his subjects, many of whom form part of his chosen family.
Madame F are purveyors of delicious wines and prosecco, building on years of experience in the sector. From the beginning, they’ve been proud supporters of Queer Britain and sponsor our annual art award. This summer, they have expanded their range to delicious fruity cocktails – win a case of 12 cans worth £43.20 RRP!
06. THE WORLD AROUND US: A private guided tour of Queer Britain Museum’s new exhibition from our Chief Executive for you and six friends, including as-yet unseen items from our archives!

Be among the first to explore the new exhibition in depth with our team, who will guide you through the themes, objects and stories on display. In addition, you will be invited to explore some of the items that remain unseen in our archive.

Queer Britain is the UK’s first and only LGBTQ+ museum, and it’s for all. Our warm and dedicated team opened the museum in Kings Cross three years ago, and since then we’ve welcomed over 100,000 visitors through our doors to learn about queer history. We receive no core funding and rely on the generosity and support of the LGBTQ+ community and our allies.
