Families are raising funds for School Leavers 2027 at St Anthony’s Primary School in Rutherglen by climbing Tinto Hill
Dear Important Supporters and Donors,
We're both in Primary 6 at St Anthony's School in Rutherglen, Scotland. In just a few months, we will be starting our final year before we move to high school, and we are putting our school motto into action, trying our best to “Work hard, aim high.”
We've decided to climb Tinto Hill in Lanarkshire together to help raise money for our school - and we can't wait. We won't be going it alone either - Ruaridh's Mum Angela, Aunt Karen, and Uncle Jim - as well as Grace's Dad, Gareth - are all climbing with us. And we'd love for even more families to join the team on the day!
Tinto Hill is the tallest hill in Lanarkshire, standing at 707 metres (that's 2,319 feet), and we know it'll be a challenge!
We came up with this idea because our school organises an Outdoor Residential Camp for Primary 7 students, and it's expensive. Every P7 class has to fundraise the whole year for it, and our dates have been announced for January 2027.
We know it won't be easy, but we're ready to give it our best shot. Reaching the top would prove that kids can do amazing things when they work hard and believe in themselves.
Please sponsor us and help support our school - every donation, small and large, will make a difference.
Thank you for your prayers, good wishes, and support,
Ruaridh and Grace
FAQs
When is the big climb? We're aiming for Sunday, 12 April, and we hope it will be sunny. It's Scotland, so we won't be put off by a wee bit of rain!
Is this for, like, the Scottish version of 5th Grade Camp? In Michigan, where Grace’s mother is from, there's something called "Fifth Grade Camp." In Scotland, we call it "Residential Outdoor Education" - so think of it as "Sixth Grade Camp" if you're one of American friends or family.
Can I donate in another currency? Yes, you can donate in USD or another currency - it will seamlessly be converted into British Pounds (though there may be a fee from your credit card company on this).
How tall is Tinto Hill? Tinto Hill is 707 metres (that's 2,319 feet). The hike typically takes between 2.5 and 3.5 hours to complete - steep in places, with loose gravel near the top, but very doable for a determined team!
