SIP Library - Revised Standard Edition Freud

Aim

To buy digital and hardback editions of Mark Solm's Revised Standard Edition of the Complete Works of Sigmund Freud for SIP's library.

Purchasing The Revised Standard Edition of the Complete Psychological Works of Sigmund Freud for the benefit of current and future members, trainees and students – we need your help! 

We would like to buy hardback and online editions of the RSE, so that present and future members and trainees have free access to all of Freud’s work whether or not they can access the library at Orchard Street. 

The new Revised Standard Edition of Freud’s works was published in 2024, under the executive editorship of neuroscientist, psychoanalyst, and Freud scholar Mark Solms, who has revised and enriched Strachey’s translation.

Harriet L Wolfe, president of the IPA, describes it as “a work of immense historical, theoretical, clinical, and cultural value to scholars, practitioners, students, and the general public. Solms has meticulously reviewed SE language for errors, set in context complex meanings of technical terms, and provided end notes that expand and update the understanding of original texts. This monumental editorial revision brilliantly illuminates the roots and meanings of Freud’s thinking.”

As well as the revisions and annotations, it includes new and previously untranslated papers and correspondence. It will be an invaluable resource for trainees and members. 

Bloomsbury, the publisher, has offered a significant discount which is available to us until the end of July. We will use underspends from the library budget to fund this, but this leaves us with a shortfall. 

We hope that members will support this purchase.

The goal

We hope to raise £4156 which is approximately £52 per member, however we welcome all donations no matter how small or large.

All Donors will be invited to a celebration event in Orchard Street, that we hope Mark Solms will attend. Details TBC.
