"hame. teeth. CLUB." is a visceral dark comedy one woman play written by Kari Hall under Playwright Studio Scotland's mentorship scheme. The play showcases the integral work that the studio does to upholding and supporting emerging writers within Scotland.
About Play
Hedonistic party girl Morgan lives for her weekends at Dalkeith Miners club, fueled by dragon soop and recklessness. But after a sexual assault abruptly ends her wild escapades, she’s forced to confront her lack of ambition, chaos and the emptiness that remains when you are believed, but no one stands by your side. Hame. Teeth. CLUB. Tackles how we navigate assault and treat survivors of assault and just how much complicity plays a part in not supporting victims. It’s about the intricacies of female friendship, something that is sacred but can be completely side benched for male validation.
About the team behind "hame. teeth. CLUB."
The show will be brought by Iona Bremner Productions in collaboration with Sláinte! Theatre - a company who focuses on amplifying marginalised Celtic voices within the London Centric Theatre Scene.
I will be taking this show with my collaborator Iona Bremner whom I founded Sláinte! Theatre with. Sláinte! Theatre has been a home to Celtic Voices in London for the past 3 years, platforming and engaging with other Celtic artists and bringing to stage marginalised voices within those communities. We have built a strong network of creatives and curated monthly events. Sláinte! has previously supported other shows at fringe, but this will be our debut and myself as the writer's debut at fringe.
Iona Bremner Productions is led by Iona, a Scottish disabled theatre-maker and arts coordinator, who has been bringing shows to the Fringe through professional and amateur capacity for over a decade. In 2025, she received the WhatsOnStage Award for Best Studio Production for ‘Diary of A Gay Disaster’ and has since held a close working relationship with Underbelly. Despite this success and returning passion, she remains unfunded and champions work from previously ignored voices on stages.
The show will be directed by Jessie-Wren Jacobs. Jessie-Wren Jacobs is a London-based director, writer and theatre-maker whose work explores gender, sexuality, and power through dark comedy and myth. A graduate of RCSSD’s MA in Writing for Stage and Broadcast Media, her plays include The Quickening, Baby I’m Burning, and This Prno Does Not Pass the Bechdel Test* (★★★★, Edinburgh Fringe 2024).
This is a one woman show and will be performed by Rhiannon Lucy Bird. Rhiannon Lucy Bird is an actor, theatre maker and puppeteer from Edinburgh. She graduated from Mountview in 2023 and has since performed in a variety of theatre, including improv shows, sketch comedy and her own one-woman puppet show, Kitty Dollparts & Other Performing Objects. She is also the co-director of Pink Palace Productions, a theatre company producing Scottish work in London. Most recently, she played the title role in Zoë.exe at Theatre Peckham.
Why Support?
Fringe is becoming more and more inaccessible to all artists. As a working class queer artist from Edinburgh, I have been brought up and raised around the fringe which has become such a part of my culture and identity as an artist, but it has never been financially feasible for me to have taken part in the fringe in any capacity, whether that's acting, writing, producing. This will be my first year taking something to the festival. It is a crucial part of this production to connect with the Scottish working class community in the areas surrounding Edinburgh who may not feel like the fringe has been inclusive for them / seen productions that reflect their world and tell their stories. This show is written in a blend of Scots and English language, "hame. teeth. CLUB" showcases and highlights a lost language and how Scottish people carry the language into the 21st century. The play also showcases a coming of age story and forces the audience to question their own complicity when it comes to navigating sexual assault and how we can show up and advocate more for victims.
Donating to our crowd funder would mean we would be able to pay our team a set rate for their time and effort put into the show, and therefore make it accessible for our team taking time off there day jobs in order to bring a show to fringe this summer. It will mean we will also be able to cover expenses such as paying our cast industry rates, travel, rehearsal room hire and advertising.
