Help Bring a 1959 Cadillac Hearse Home to Create a Vehicle for Charity
This project is about far more than restoring a classic vehicle. It's about creating something that can bring hope, smiles, and support to people throughout the community.
Four years ago, my mother-in-law was diagnosed with cancer. Watching her battle the disease inspired me to start raising money for Cancer Research by taking part in charity walks dressed as a Ghostbuster. It was my way of giving something back while bringing smiles to people along the way.
Sadly, two years ago, we lost my mother-in-law. Like many families, we had so much to deal with that I had to put my charity work on hold.
Then, last year, my dad was also diagnosed with cancer. Thankfully, after surgery, the cancer was successfully removed. That experience reminded me just how important it is to keep supporting those affected by cancer and other life-changing illnesses.
Now I'm ready to restart my charity work—but this time, I want to do something even bigger.
The Vision
My dream is to rescue and restore a 1959 Cadillac hearse and transform it into a unique charity vehicle. Once restored, it will be used for:
- Charity walks and fundraising events
- Hospital visits
- Community events and charity shows
- Ghostbusters-themed appearances to bring smiles to children and families
- Supporting local charities and worthwhile causes wherever possible
This hearse won't just be a classic car—it will become a vehicle of hope, bringing people together while raising awareness and funds for charities.
The Project
The full restoration is expected to cost around £25,000, but I'm breaking the project into manageable stages so supporters can clearly see where every pound will go.
Stage One – £11,000 (Current Goal)
The first step is to bring the hearse home to the UK.
This includes:
- Purchasing the 1959 Cadillac hearse for $2,000
- Having the vehicle inspected and made safe for transport
- Shipping it to the UK by sea for approximately $3,000
- Import costs, taxes, transport within the UK, and other associated expenses
I've already been speaking with the current owner, and we've agreed to secure the hearse while I raise the funds needed to bring it home.
Stage Two
Once the hearse is safely in the UK, the next stage will focus on restoring its appearance.
This will include:
- Bodywork repairs and filling any damaged areas
- Preparing and repainting the vehicle
- Purchasing the correct roof rack and ladder (approximately $2,400, plus around $1,000 shipping)
- Installing two blue light bars and four blue round spotlights (approximately $4,000)
Some costs are still being confirmed and will be updated as the project progresses.
Stage Three
The final stage will complete the transformation and prepare the hearse for charity events.
Planned work includes:
- Installing front bumper strobe lights
- Polishing and restoring the chrome
- Fitting two rear jump seats (approximately $500 each)
- Completing the custom interior build
Some of these costs are still being sourced.
Why This Matters
This hearse represents much more than an old car.
For me, it represents healing after losing family members to cancer, rebuilding my confidence, improving my mental health, and finding purpose again through helping others.
For the community, it will become something unique that can bring smiles, create memories, and support charities through fundraising events, hospital visits, community appearances, and Ghostbusters-themed activities.
I genuinely believe this project can make a difference.
