We’re looking to raise £20,000 to refit and refurbish The Bar Gym. The funds will go directly towards upgrading/refurbishing our equipment.

**Our Story**
We opened our doors in Worthing in 2009 with one clear aim: to create something special. Not just another gym, but a place that felt different.
From the start, we designed a split facility. Downstairs, a fully equipped gym for strength and fitness. Upstairs, a dedicated martial arts and combat sports space. We wanted to build somewhere that worked for everyone, from four-year-olds taking their first class to members in their seventies and beyond. Health and wellbeing should be for all ages, and we built our space around that belief.
**Growing into a Community**
Word spread quickly. The gym grew, and before long it became a hub for the local community. Busy mums training between school runs. Teenagers building confidence. Older members staying strong and active. Families training side by side.
It wasn’t just about equipment. It was about people. And that’s what made it special.
**Facing the Challenge**
The gym has been privately funded by Nick Brewer and Mike O’Hagan since day one. In 2014, large corporate gyms arrived in town, packed with shiny new equipment, long opening hours, and big marketing budgets. Competing with that wasn’t easy.
We felt the pressure. But we’re still here. And we fight every day to protect what makes us different.
**Raising the Bar**
Our coaches and staff are second to none. They give their time, energy, and experience to every member who walks through the door.
We offer Boxing, Kickboxing, Thai Boxing, Grappling, Strength and Fitness, all led by qualified, dedicated coaches who genuinely care. Over the years, we’ve produced multiple professional champions in Mixed Martial Arts, Thai Boxing, and Kickboxing, including a professional World Kickboxing Champion.
What we’re most proud of, though, is something else. We now train the children of members who first joined us years ago. We have generations of families under one roof.
We’re not a gym where members are just a direct debit. We’re a community built on hard work, respect, and the belief that training strengthens both mind and body.
**Giving Back**
We work closely with local charities, offering heavily discounted memberships to those who need support. But we don’t just offer access to equipment. We offer belonging.
We’ve worked with young offenders and children in care, giving them structure, support, and a sense of achievement. We provide free memberships to local youth football teams to help keep them fit during and off season.
We understand that cost can be a barrier. That’s why our NUS membership allows 13–17 year olds full access for just 30p per day.

We’re proud of what we’ve built. And we’re even prouder of the people who make it what it is.
