The Gift of Breath

Bringing Joseph Rose's Album to Life

A unique, full length album of Joseph Rose’s music, bringing his original recordings together with contributions from an extraordinary community of musicians.

Those involved already include Mike Stanton, Misha Mullov-Abbado, Matthew Barley, Elad Neeman, Arjun Magee, Kaiya Lowena, Adrian Freedman, Jonas Winter, Susie Ro and Seraphina NiCarta.

We are also delighted that internationally known medicine musicians Danit and Rainer Scheurenbrand have also offered to contribute.

Produced by Duncan Bridgeman (One Giant Leap & Nessi Gomes), with artwork by Anika Nixdorf.

Everyone who donates will be among the first to receive the completed album digitally, sent by private link as soon as it is released.

Every donation, whatever its size, helps us bring this music into the world. We are also looking for Album Patrons and Sponsors who may be able to support the project more substantially. You can read more about this below.

And if you know someone who might connect with Joseph’s music or the spirit of this project, please help us by sharing it.

The Story Behind The Gift of Breath

Music was medicine for our beloved son Joseph.

His songs carried his relationship with spirit, his love of the earth, his understanding of healing and the insights that flowed through his life and work.

Joseph died suddenly of an aggressive blood cancer on 4 September 2025, leaving behind his young children, his family and a huge community of people whose lives he had touched.

He also left behind a treasure trove of songs, recordings and musical ideas.

After his death, we began to wonder whether these recordings could be brought together into an album. We wanted his children to grow up with Papa’s voice and music in the world, his friends and family to continue to have access to this unique expression of who he was, and these songs to travel further, reaching people who never knew Joseph but who may find something in his music that moves them, connects them to spirit or brings healing.

What began as a wish to preserve Joseph’s songs has grown into something much bigger.

A unique musical collaboration

The album is being created with producer Duncan Bridgeman, Joseph’s family and an extraordinary community of musicians and singers who knew Joseph, loved his music or feel connected to what he was creating.

The album is currently being developed around eight tracks, with other possible songs that may also be worked on as the project unfolds.

There is something very special about this group of musicians coming together around Joseph’s original recordings. Each is bringing their own musicianship and relationship with this kind of music, while keeping Joseph’s voice, songs and spirit at the heart of the album.

This is not simply about preserving what Joseph left behind. It is about allowing his music to continue to live, grow and reach people.

What your support makes possible

Creating an album of this quality involves many stages: production, musicians, recording sessions, studio time, engineering, editing, mixing, mastering, artwork, distribution and release.

An extraordinary amount is already being given freely. Many musicians are gifting their time and musicianship, while others are offering professional skills, practical help and support without charge.

At the same time, not everyone is in a position to work for free, and we don’t believe they should be expected to. We want to honour everyone involved and create this album with the care and quality Joseph’s music deserves.

Our revised fundraising target is £23,000.

How the Funds will be Used

Our current estimated budget includes:

Production, recording and studio costs: £9,000

Working with Joseph’s original recordings, arranging and producing the tracks, studio sessions, engineering and additional recording.

Musicians and contributors: £5,000

Fees and expenses where needed for the musicians and singers contributing to the album.

Mixing and mastering: £4,000

Professional finishing of the tracks ready for release.

Artwork, distribution and release: £2,000

Preparing the album for digital release and the associated creative and practical costs.

Contingency and additional production costs: £3,000

A provision for the additional costs that inevitably arise in a project of this scale as the music develops.

Total estimated budget: £23,000

We will continue to use every contribution carefully, alongside the enormous amount of time, skill and love already being donated.

Ways to support The Gift of Breath

Every donation matters.

Whether you give £10, £50, £100 or another amount that feels right to you, you become part of helping this music come into being.

Everyone who donates will be among the first to receive the finished album digitally by private link.

Album Patrons

We are also looking for a small circle of people who may be able to support the album at a deeper level, with contributions of around £1,000 or more.

Album Sponsors

We would love to hear from individuals, organisations or benefactors who feel strongly aligned with the project and may be able to make a substantial contribution towards completing and releasing the album.

And perhaps just as importantly, you may know the person we haven’t met yet.

Someone who knew Joseph or received something through his work.

Someone who believes deeply in medicine music and its ability to touch people’s lives.

Or someone who never knew Joseph but has the means and desire to help something meaningful and beautiful come into being.

If somebody comes to mind, please share this Crowdfunder with them or put us in touch.

Thank you for helping us bring The Gift of Breath into the world.

With enormous gratitude and love,

Julie & David x x  (Joseph’s mum & dad)
