Help us give our children more opportunities beyond the school gates

At Holly Hill Church School, we want our children to experience as much of the world around them as possible.

We are a small infant school based in the Frankley area of Birmingham, teaching children from Nursery to Year 2. Many of our children come from families experiencing financial hardship and opportunities to visit places outside their immediate area can be limited.

We want to change that.

We are fundraising towards our very own school minibus, which would give our children access to more trips, visits and experiences throughout the year without the high cost of hiring coaches every time we want to take them somewhere.  Our own mini bus would open doors through experience and encourage wider community engagement.

Why a minibus would make such a difference

For young children, some of the best learning happens outside the classroom.

A minibus would allow us to take small groups of children to places such as parks, libraries, museums, local attractions, sporting activities, community events and educational visits.  We are surrounded by beautiful countryside and parks - help us to get our children out and about visiting them and encouraging a love of the outside.

A mini bus would also give us much more flexibility. Instead of deciding whether a trip is affordable after transport costs have been added, we could make much better use of the fantastic free and low-cost opportunities available across Birmingham and the surrounding areas.

For some of our children, these may be places and experiences they would otherwise never have the opportunity to visit.

Why we are fundraising

Transport costs have become a significant barrier when planning school trips.

Even when we find a free activity or a low-cost visit, the cost of hiring a coach can make the overall trip difficult for a small school to fund and school budgets are getting smaller every year.

We never want a child's family circumstances to determine the opportunities they receive.

Having access to a minibus would be a long-term investment. Rather than repeatedly spending school funds on coach hire, we could use the vehicle again and again, allowing many groups of children to benefit for years to come.

What will the money be used for?

Every penny raised through this campaign will go towards our school minibus project.

Our aim is to raise £50,000 towards the purchase of a suitable minibus and the associated costs needed to get it safely on the road for our children.

We will also be applying for grants, approaching local businesses and holding fundraising events in school so that our Crowdfunder campaign forms part of a much wider fundraising effort.

Any money raised through this page will be ring-fenced for the minibus project.

What happens if we don't reach the full target?

Every donation will still bring us closer to getting our minibus.

If we do not raise enough through this campaign alone, the money will remain in our minibus fund while we continue to fundraise, apply for grants and seek support from local organisations and businesses.

We know this is a big target, but we also know what a difference having our own transport could make to our children.

And if we raise more?

That would be an amazing problem to have!

Once the cost of purchasing the minibus has been covered, any additional money raised for the project would be used towards the costs associated with operating it for our children, such as insurance, safety equipment, servicing and other appropriate minibus-related costs.

Can local businesses help?

Absolutely.

We would love local businesses and organisations to get involved with our campaign.

Whether you can make a donation, sponsor part of the project, run a workplace fundraiser or simply share our campaign with your staff and customers, every bit of support will help.

Every donation matters

We know times are difficult for many families, so there is absolutely no expectation that everyone will be able to donate.

Our children are only at Holly Hill for the first few years of their education, but the experiences they have during those years can stay with them for a lifetime.
