Aim

Designed around children and young adults with disabilities to provide a secure pitch for families to be able to safety access camping.

Be Wild

Everyone should have opportunities to explore the natural world in ways that work for them.

They can get muddy, build dens, investigate wildlife, walk through woodland, play, create and discover.

Be You

People should not have to hide who they are or apologise for how they experience the world.

At Wildfields, differences will be respected.

People may communicate differently, move differently, play differently or need more support.

That is okay.

Be Free

Freedom does not mean removing boundaries or safety.

It means creating an environment where everyone can experience independence within safe and supportive boundaries.

Our vision is to create a place where a child who may struggle in conventional holiday environments can arrive and think:

"I can do this."

A place where parents can think:

"We can relax here."

And where families can simply think:

"We belong here."

Wildfields aims to become a recognised destination for inclusive family outdoor experiences and eventually a model for accessible nature-based tourism.

Founder’s Personal Statement

Wildfields was born from my own experience as a mum.

I am the mum of a profoundly autistic, non-verbal teenage daughter with severe learning disabilities. She experiences the world in her own unique way, and one of the places where I have always seen the most incredible magic in her eyes is when she is outside.

I have watched her look up at the stars with a sense of wonder that is difficult to put into words. Those moments have made me realise just how important nature and the freedom of being outdoors are for her.

But as she has grown older, particularly after the age of three, traditional camping has simply stopped being an option for our family.

There is always the worry that she may run. She may not sleep. She may make noise. She may become overwhelmed. There is the constant thought of disturbing other families and the pressure of trying to contain her wild spirit in order to protect the people around us. Aas well as damage to property and rental accommodation.

How did a holiday  become so exhausting?

For families like ours, holidays are not necessarily the holidays we once knew. They can be filled with stress, judgement, uncertainty and constant vigilance.

Instead of relaxing, you are thinking:

Is she safe?

Will she run?

Will she sleep?

Will she disturb someone?

Will people understand?

What happens if she becomes overwhelmed?

And that is where the idea for Wildfields was born.

I began to imagine a place where families like ours could go without having to spend every minute worrying about what might happen.

Wildfields is not simply about providing a secure camping pitch for a child with additional needs.

It has been designed with the whole family in mind — including the parent.

I want parents to experience something that many families take for granted: the ability to relax while their child enjoys being outdoors. A place where I could give my son some of my attention and play a game without that fear of  my daughter escaping or injuring herself. 

That is why security and privacy are such an important part of the Wildfields concept.

Imagine arriving at your own pitch and knowing that it has been designed with your child's needs in mind.

High hedges and secure fencing could provide a safe boundary for children who run or wander.

Whether your child is a little streaker who loves being free, a runner who needs space to explore, or simply a child who cannot be contained by the expectations of a traditional campsite, Wildfields will aim to provide an environment where they can be themselves safely.

Imagine being able to sit outside under the stars without constantly watching the gate.

Imagine being able to sleep knowing your child cannot simply escape from the pitch.

Imagine lying awake with your child under the night sky, listening to the sounds of nature, without worrying that you are disturbing another family.

Imagine being able to breathe.

That is what I want Wildfields to offer.

Not just a holiday.

Not just a campsite.

But peace of mind.

A place where children can be free, while parents can feel safe.

A place where families do not have to apologise for their child's behaviour, worry about judgement or feel that they have to fit into an environment that was never designed for them.

Wildfields has been created from a parent's perspective because I know what it feels like to want your child to experience the magic of the outdoors while simultaneously being afraid of everything that could go wrong.

I want to create the place I wish had existed for my family.

A place where my daughter could look up at the stars, feel the freedom of the outdoors and simply be herself.

And where, for once, I could look up at those same stars and not be worrying about what comes next.

Wildfields is an inclusive, nature-based destination created from a simple but important belief:

Every child deserves the chance to experience nature, adventure and freedom.

For many families of children with additional needs, accessing outdoor activities and holidays can be difficult. Traditional campsites, holiday parks and outdoor attractions may not always provide the security, accessibility, privacy, flexibility or understanding that families need.

Wildfields aims to change this.

Wildfields will create a safe, secure, welcoming and inclusive outdoor environment where children with additional needs can explore nature, play, relax and enjoy new experiences in an environment designed with their needs in mind.

The business will welcome children and adults with a wide range of additional needs, including children who may have sensory, physical, developmental, communication or behavioural needs.

Wildfields will not define children and adults by their diagnosis or disability.

Instead, it will focus on the individual :

What do they enjoy? What makes them feel safe? What helps them explore? What allows them to be themselves?

The number of holidays I have taken where they have been classed as Sen friendly or a SEN environment. What we need to realise it that not all SEN children need fidget spinners, sensory toys, ear defenders adding these items does not make somewhere SEN friendly. Tap locks, window locks, door lock, cupboard locks, safety, accessibility these are the things SEN parents want. Because I can guarantee you they will have there own bag of goodies for their child’s needs. 

The Wildfields philosophy is:

Be wild. Be you. Be free.

Wildfields will provide families with an opportunity to step away from the pressures of everyday life, reconnect with nature and spend meaningful time together without the fear of judgement.

The goal is not simply to make a conventional campsite accessible.

The goal is to design the experience around inclusion from the beginning.

Secure Individual Pitches

One of Wildfields' key distinguishing features will be the potential provision of secure, private family pitches.

Where appropriate and subject to planning, safety and design requirements, pitches could incorporate features such as:

• Secure fencing.
• High natural hedging.
• Secure gates.
• Child-friendly boundaries.
• Private outdoor space.
• Safe access points.
• Adequate space for children to move freely.
• Areas suitable for specialist equipment.

The purpose is not to make children feel confined, but to promote safety and the benefits of relaxation to the family.

It is to give them safe freedom.

For a child who runs or wanders, a secure pitch could mean parents are able to allow their child to explore outdoors without constantly fearing that they will suddenly leave the area.

For a child who enjoys being outside at night, it could mean a family can sit beneath the stars with greater peace of mind.

For parents, it can mean being able to breathe.

Siblings Matter Too

Wildfields will recognise the importance of siblings.

A child with additional needs should not be the only consideration.

Siblings should also have opportunities to:

• Play.
• Explore.
• Make friends.
• Have adventures.
• Spend time with their family.
• Create positive memories.

Wildfields will therefore aim to create activities that families can enjoy together. Removing the fear and stress for the parent to allow for quality time for all.
