ELM Wildlife is financially in trouble!
In 2024, ELM was financially in the red to the tune of a £15k loss and we predict 2025 to be worse; we will not be able to sustain this into 2026. I hate being dramatic, but we are looking at a matter of months; ELM desperately needs your help, please. I have to admit that I may have left it too late; I’ve never liked asking for money and it’s a difficult mindset to get over. I’m hoping you can help save ELM now; going forward we need to try grants and other ideas we have lined up. If you know of anyone with the skills to write funding bids, please ask them if they can make time to help; at least to get us back on track.
The goals of this fundraiser
The initial goal of this Crowdfunder to raise money for a new website and then fund the overheads for the rescue centre. Facebook has been good for ELM, but adding static advice and updates for people to find, is tricky. We want to help people find help advice, keep them up to date with the new rescue centre progress, acknowledge supporter’s donations better and there is also a hope that ELM can achieve some business support via HMRC’s tax relief for businesses. We'll leave the fundraiser going past what we need, in the hope that your support can pull ELM out of this negative spiral. ELM needs £100k a year, to keep it running. In 2024 our supporters donated £75k, but unfortunately wasn't enough. I would not be surprised if ELM needs £60k extra in 2026. I don't want to put this figure or any of the other large numbers up, it makes the goal seem unattainable. Please keep your support going and lets all see where we come out; there are a lot of fingers crossed this end.

A little about ELM
ELM is a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centre, based in Newton Abbot, Devon. We primarily take in hedgehogs but will take in other wildlife when space allows.
ELM was created by the Parker family in 2018, with around 7000 casualties coming through the door, to date. ELM has a maximum capacity of 220 and is open 365 days a year; it also has a rescue number manned 10 hours a day and advice given via Messenger, from its well supported Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/savinghedgehogs . In 2024 Rick and Jacky Parker remortgaged to purchase 10.75 acres of land, to build a new rescue centre. These will be exciting times, if we can achieve planning permission and manage to keep ELM funded.
ELM tries to save all species wildlife, unfortunately the costrants of funding and space, limit our capability. We have a plan to tackle the space issue; planning is going forward to enable use to build a new rescue centre. Fantastic!! It's hard running a rescue centre
When you care for wildlife as we do, the constant stress, joy and then sadness roller coaster, is sometime unbearable. When you dedicate every waking hour to saving them, the constant battle of try to find funding, grinds you down.
In my mind, you need to care to save animals and not be driven by financial gain, the latter is something you could never accuse the team at ELM of. To set your mind at rest, we are never frivolous with ELM's funds, there are no big wages and there never will be.
Do you care about wildlife that needs help?
We are here to help British wildlife and you, the person who cares and needs help, when you find an animal. I don't want to labour this point too much; but there is no county or national organisation that cares for sick and injured wildlife. If you care, please support your local rescue.
