Aim

The Victorian ground pipe for the toilets is failing. No loos = no events. Replace the old infrastructure to host today's emerging talent.

London's only Elizabethan church 1563 is now a thriving and eclectic music and community grass roots venue. A space of exploration, a supportive environment with a sublime acoustic, a place to find your groove.

We are launching a campaign to save The Old Church. The main ground toilet drain urgently needs replacing, without it we will have to close. Its not a sexy ask but it is essential. We hope that you will join us to keep the doors open of this much used and beloved space by the local neighbourhood and our wider communities.

We are a consecrated church, a community space, a music venue for all - Baroque to techno, folk to indie, experimental electronic,  rare space of rehearsal time, a film location, public talks, poetry, comedy, weddings and the occasional party. The enclosed graveyard is a haven for people and wildlife.

How we will use the money: professional fees, expert contractors who will ensure the sensitive excavation, replacement of like for like in keeping with grade II listing, repair of water supply, replacement of water damaged ramp and replacement of perished ground level render and a new ramp.

We would like to keep the church going for the next generation and to see it reach its 500th birthday.  It is essential that we make repairs to the infrastructure to ensure this.

Since reopening in 2022 we have regularly hosted Stoke Newington Early Music Festival, Hackney Music Live, Hackney Prom and Corelia Quartet and many choirs including Kings Place Choir, Chaps Choir and Mixtape Choir.

We also host a programme of wellness events, including a monthly gong bath, yoga, whirling and belly dancing.

We have welcomed exciting performances from an array of talented musicians, with highlights including; Adam Beattie, Jim Ghedi, Florence (without The Machine), Emile Mosseri, Alexis Taylor, Penelope Trappes, Hainbach, Katie Gavin from MUNA, Jianbo, Molly Lewis, Dan English, IDER. We are proud to celebrate cross-cultural music connections, spotlighting the music of Turkish and Kurdish communities - with performances from musicians including Rotinda, Suna Alan and Berfin.

We are also proud to host a variety of benefit events raising money for Palestine and Ukraine, Hackney Migrant Centre, and our recurring Money for Old Prose event raising funds for the church and Myeloma.

We have been gifted a Bechstein Piano which will arrive before Easter, and will be be presenting film screenings from the autumn.
