Rain or Shine – Help Us Inspire 750,000 Children to compassion and kindness
Rain or Shine – Help Us Inspire 750,000 Children
Sanctuary Foundation is committed to inspiring children and young people to live lives of compassion, kindness and moral ambition.
In just the last year, we’ve reached over 750,000 children through our Great Big Live Assemblies — online events that connect schools across the UK and around the world. Together, we’ve tackled difficult but vital topics:
We don’t just inform children. We inspire them to make a difference.
Why This Matters
When I was a teenager, I watched Live Aid. Before that concert, I was just going about my life. But afterwards, I realised the world was full of injustice — that some children live while others die for lack of food. I knew that wasn’t right.
We want children in the UK to have that same awakening — not guilt, but compassionate ambition.
Recently, schoolchildren in Wales interviewed Ajock, a girl living in a refugee camp in Kenya after her family fled war in Sudan. She walked for five weeks to reach safety. She now walks 5km each day to school. There are 130 children in her class. She eats one meal a day — rice and beans.
Yet she wants to become a teacher.
You could see the impact of her story on children here. They stopped taking their education for granted. They realised their privilege. They began asking, “What can we do?”
That’s the spark we want to ignite across the UK.
What We Do
We help schools navigate complex, sensitive issues in a gracious, non-partisan way. When tensions rise nationally, we create resources that literally thousands of schools use to guide thoughtful conversations. We were specifically asked by teachers to produce a film about the 'Raise the Flag' campaign in September 2025, and our International Holocaust Memorial Day film has been used in thousands of schools across the UK.
We are a tiny team — just three part-time staff — yet our reach is extraordinary. I don’t know another charity of our size that reaches so many children so consistently.
And yet…
We Are About to Run Out of Money
This isn’t exaggeration. It’s not fundraising theatre.
We are genuinely at the point where we may have to stop operations. I’ve had to warn staff that funding is uncertain. Like many charities, we are navigating incredibly difficult times.
Without your support, this work will end.
