Who are we?

AFC Weedon is a new community football club created in loving memory of my dad, John Weedon. I’m his youngest child, and after losing him, I’ve always felt a responsibility to keep his spirit alive in a way that truly reflects who he was — loyal, hardworking, and loved by so many people in Beaumont Leys and across Leicester. This club is my way of honouring him and building something positive for our community, just like he would have wanted.

Why are we crowdfunding?

We’re crowdfunding to help launch AFC Weedon properly and give the team the foundation it needs. Starting a club from scratch comes with a lot of costs — kit, equipment, pitch hire, league fees, and everything needed to get us up and running. But for me, this is more than football. It’s about creating something meaningful in my dad’s name, something that brings people together and keeps his memory alive through the sport he loved watching and supporting. Every donation helps us build a legacy for him and a future for local players.

How we’ll spend the money raised

I want to be open and honest about where your support will go. Funds raised will help us cover:

• Team kit carrying the AFC Weedon identity

• Training equipment like balls, cones, bibs, and goals

• Pitch hire and matchday costs

• League registration and affiliation fees

• Safeguarding, coaching courses, and club setup requirements

• Branding and community engagement to help the club grow

Community impact

AFC Weedon isn’t just a football team — it’s a way of keeping my dad’s spirit alive by building something positive for the community he loved. As his youngest child, creating this club is my way of honouring him and giving people a place to belong, just like he always did.

The club will bring together players of all ages, families, and supporters from Beaumont Leys and across Leicester. It will give young people a safe, supportive environment, help keep adults active and connected, and create a space where everyone feels welcome. Our aim is to build a club that strengthens the community, brings people together, and carries forward the values my dad lived by — loyalty, kindness, and togetherness.
