Aim

Building Community Connections is a non-profit enterprise tackling health and well-being inequalities in Portsmouth.

I founded Building Community Connections in response to a community research project I carried out over 12 months on behalf of Home-Start Portsmouth & Portsmouth City Council. The findings showed Portsmouth families' health and happiness were being negatively affected by the cost of living. The aim of BCC is to share information and support available easily and accessibly, highlight existing services and community projects and developing projects where there is a need.

Every penny donated goes into the enterprise to:

  • help with basic running costs (website building and maintenance; admin; training)
  • create free craft kits for community groups and families - I make these collage kits by recycling, reusing and repurposing materials so they are good for the environment as well as providing hours of fun.
  • fund the Family Hub Garden Project - planting and garden related craft activities held at Home-Start Portsmouth Stay & Play groups. These sessions are particularly valued by attendees who don't have a garden.

  • develop 'A Moment For You' - a mindful art project for parents with children who have additional needs/health issues. Our taster session held recently showed parents' sense of well-being increased by 18% in just 1 hour and they left feeling more optimistic and 40% more relaxed compared to when they arrived. 1763409568_art3.jpg 1763409619_art_group.jpg
