Aim

We are a bunch of farmers and local people who want to do loads to make our little valley better for wildlife.

Our vision is to be a great model of farmers working together with ecologists (and other experts) to make our valley brilliant for wildlife.

We have a community interest company and a partnership of about twenty farmers willing to do habitat restoration works.

We have a track record of delivering projects that plant trees, rewiggle rivers, and protect all kind of valuable habitats and micro-habitats, like hedges, but we want to do more, much more...

This project is about doing the following:

Planting oak woodland - for every £3.50 we can plant an oak tree (with guard etc)

Creating ponds and wetland areas - for as little as £600 we can create a pond

For £100 we can build a post and rail tree cage to put a small patch of new woodland in a field.

For larger sums we can ‘rewiggle’ stretches of river or plant lengths of new hedgerow.

NB: this is for works on land that aren’t part of existing environmental schemes and no money goes to any farmer directly, unless they were the appointed contractor for modest works. The farmer donates the land and is responsible for managing it afterwards with our overview.

The funds will be managed by Ullswater Catchment Management Community Interest Company, and all works will be done with full approvals from relevant authorities.
