Purchase of pitch side cabin at Barnard Castle RFC

Aim

We hire a cabin which sits by the pitches, it main use is as a first aid post , cost £2300/year a big revenue drain ,we wish to purchase .

• Who are we?

• Barnard Castle Rugby Club was formed in 1975 and since then we have grown rapidly, we have two male senior teams ,our 1`st team plays within the  RFU league system. We have a strong Junior section with ages from  6 years upwards with mixed teams up to the age of 12 , then boys and girls play in separate teams to the age of 18 . We have over 100 players registered ,this season, in the junior section .  

  

Why are we crowdfunding?

 Last season  the club identified an urgent need  for an dry and warm space by the pitches to provide a first aid facility for mainly our junior section but available for whoever may need it . Thus a porta cabin was leased and placed by the pitches ,the cabin was supplied with electricity  via a generator which allowed a greater use for the cabin. A snack bar  was opened within the cabin serving hot drinks and snacks ,given the exposed nature of our pitches this is greatly appreciated      

We started out renting the cabin ,to be sure this was the right approach, the cabin has turned out to be very successful ,thus we now wish to make it a permanent fixture

How we’ll spend the money raised

The money raised will be spent on the  buying  the cabin, any shortfall will be made up from a loan from Durham RFU, the payback time is less than three years for the cabin purchase. 

Community impact

Our Rugby Club is the only rugby club in the Teesdale area of County Durham.  The area (325 sq. miles) is one of the least-populous districts in England (with a population of 24,457 in 2011), which means there are issues with isolation for many young people within our area. The club provides a focal point within the area, for all ages, to be a part of group, a sports community, within Teesdale. We also go into local schools to provide rugby training when volunteers are available. Thus, the club is very important to the local community in providing a way for all ages to play a sport that they enjoy, to keep fit and beat issues with isolation. The core values of the club follow those of the RFU ie teamwork. respect, discipline and enjoyment, and thus many of our members take these values into our community, by being members of other organisations ,charities etc helping Teesdale to be a better place to live .

Our facilities are used by other community groups such as charities ,dog agility club ,local organisations

Last campaign on Crowdfunding

We ran a campaign last year for a new boiler for the club house ,which was very successful as we exceeded our target, and the boiler is in and running  making our clubhouse a warm and welcoming place to be  ,with warm showers for all which given our normal Teesdale weather are very welcome .
