We are a very small conservation organisation that manages fox and badger problems for individuals and companies without harming any animals. We've saved 1000s of animals over the last 10 years that would have otherwise been 'dealt with' by pest controllers. We are at the beginning of cub season and the busiest time of year and last Saturday we had our welfare van stolen, emptied of its' parts and burnt to an irreparable degree.

The vehicle was specialised and fully fitted with toilet and drying room, kitchen and eating facilities. It also had a selection of our equipment in the rear to deal with injured animals, including carriers, heat pads, nets etc etc etc. Having a welfare van is a requirement on larger scale jobs, it has helped us compete with larger companies that have less or no care for the animals they are excluding. It also allows us to carry out overnight rescues, animal rehabilitation and have the necessary facilities to work at schools.

A set back such as this can and will have a devastating impact on a small ethical company such as us, so we've resorted to setting up a crowdfunder. Our insurance will not cover the whole cost of replacing a van or the cost of having modified the vehicle to a functional level (mechanics/respraying etc) and doing so again. We are therefore asking for contributions to the purchase of a new van which may run to about £12,000. Any payout from insurance we will add to this fund. Any donation you can make (£1+ for example) will directly prevent foxes and badgers from coming to any harm.

If anyone would like to talk to us and find out what we do, then just give us a call on 0208 925 9639. On average we save over 1000 foxes a year from death by pest controllers.

This is something new to us, in fact we have never had to resort to this before.  Normally it is the opposite and we try to help out as many animal organisations as  we can.

As per our recent Facebook post following the rescue of cubs from a garage due to be emptied and jet washed, these type of incidents will come fast and furious as the season progresses and  we really need to replace the van as soon as possible. In an event like this we would normally have deployed the van with heating to keep the animals safe and warm until the vixen returned.  It would also allow whoever was staying with them to have toilet facilities and the ability to make a warm cup of coffee. As it is Terry was on site over fourteen hours without a break.

Apart from these duties we regularly work in schools and other environments where although our presence is welcome, it is not within their buildings (this is not a job if you want to remain clean, tidy or dry).  The van therefore gives the staff the ability to have our own site services and be totally self sufficient.

In our posting regarding the theft of the van, almost 15,000 people read it.  If each were to contribute £1 then we would be well on the way. I know that many of you cannot afford it as you have your own rescues etc but to those that can afford a few pounds any contribution would be very gratefully accepted.

All the best,

The Fox-A-Gon and Badger-Gon Team
