UMDS are delighted to be taking PULP and Bundle of Joy? to the Edinburgh Fringe this year, under our performing company name: Hive MCR!
We are crowdfunding to support our two excellent shows and their show runs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2022. Any donation amount would mean the world to us as the Fringe is a very expensive endeavour, but a creatively thrilling one as well!
A little more info on the shows:
Bundle of Joy explores one newly married couple’s attempts to get pregnant and how this journey is determined by external pressures and societal demands. Overwhelmed by expectation XX is forced to face herself, what she wants and what her body is capable of. The expectation to procreate begins to weigh heavy on their relationship, as we get to know XX and XY move further and further apart from one another, allowing us to re-evaluate the “necessity” for couples to have children in the day to day that we know. Combining monologue and dialogue this play stages a contemporary female experience. Directed by Maisie Bagley and Laurie Bayley-Higgins. Written by Imogen Chillington.
PULP is a hilarious and provoking piece exploring themes of uncertainty, failure and spontaneity. It studies the presence of AI within performance. As the show unfolds, an algorithm gives instructions to the actors. The piece explores how the act of translation from artificial intelligence to human intelligence opens up space for new meaning and a reconfiguration of language and its use. Moreover, PULP is a study on how restrictions can produce spontaneity and original solutions to impossible performative tasks. Finally, the piece explores notions of chance and coincidence, producing meaning despite an apparent lack of intentionality. Directed by Giulia Grillo. Text by Rory Greig.
These are two wonderful shows with two phenomenal creative teams and we can't wait to see the work they produce!
