We are campaigning against dangerous new anti-protest measures. Help us stop the Government silencing dissent.

This government’s popularity is crashing through the floor. And its response? To try and silence dissent.
Their shocking Public Order Bill is a dangerous new attempt to stop you from speaking out. It includes:
- Protest Banning Orders – allowing police to ban certain people from protesting and subject them to electronic tagging, even if they haven’t committed an offence
- Expanded stop and search powers, which will disproportionately target Black people and communities of colour
- A new offence of ‘locking on’ – criminalising the key tactic used by the Suffragettes
- A new offence of ‘interfering with key national infrastructure’, effectively banning protests at key sites of power – exactly where it’s most important!
We cannot let the Government gag us like this. Our voices must be heard.

Where did this Bill come from?
Earlier this year the Government passed the Policing Act – a draconian piece of legislation which gives the police sweeping new powers to shut down demonstrations for being too ‘noisy’.
We defeated many of the most vicious measures in the Act, which were rightly rejected by the House of Lords after widespread opposition from across society. But the Government has now simply repackaged and reintroduced these dangerous measures in the form of the Public Order Bill.
When these proposals were included in the Policing Bill, a huge national movement was successful in getting them removed. We’ve defeated them once – and we’ll defeat them again. But we need your help.
We need your help
We need to raise at least £17,500 to protect our fundamental right to protest.
Your support will enable us to:
- rally opposition in Parliament by briefing politicians on how the Public Order Bill breaches people’s right to protest and freedom of expression
- raise national awareness through the media and our online petition against the Bill
- use the courts to challenge attacks on the right to protest
- work with other charities and NGOs to build opposition to authoritarian anti-protest measures.
From the Suffragettes to the trade union movement, protesters throughout history have used noisy and disruptive methods to make their voices heard and win progress for everyone. This proud tradition of public protest laid the foundations for many of the rights and freedoms we enjoy today.
We must come together to defeat these proposals, protect each other and our communities, and stop the Government silencing dissent at every opportunity.
