Aim: Help survivors of domestic abuse communicate safely with an ex while protecting them from their abusive, controlling, or coercive language.
Our Mission
Imagine opening your inbox to find yet another email from your ex-partner - your heart sinks as you see their name. For all those around the world who co-parent or must maintain contact with difficult people in their lives, this moment triggers anxiety, fear, and emotional exhaustion.
This is where exSplain.com steps in. We've created a service that uses AI to gently filter out the painful, controlling language that leaves emotional bruises. exSplain transforms those harmful messages into clear, factual communication—preserving the important information while removing the emotional daggers.
No more bracing yourself before checking your inbox. No more reading between lines of manipulation. Instead, you can stay connected where necessary without carrying the heavy emotional burden of abusive language. We're here to help you reclaim your peace of mind, one email at a time.
Here’s how it works:
1. Tell them you've changed your email address
Create and share a new Gmail address with the problem contact, use that account to sign into exSplain
2. AI Protection
Our AI rewrites abusive or controlling language in emails they send you into neutral, factual communication
3. Neutralized Messages
You receive the neutralized version at your main email address, preserving all important information.
For example:
- Original Email
"You are a terrible mother, stop poisoning our child against me, and speak to me respectfully. From now on I will collect her an hour earlier every week - she needs her father, what you are doing to this child is a disgrace!" - May become:
"I’d like to discuss our child’s schedule. Could we arrange for me to collect her an hour earlier each week? Thank you."

Why We Need Your Support
We’re raising £5,000 to get exSplain off the ground and protect more people from harmful language. Here’s how we’ll use the funds:
- Gmail CASA Tier 2 Security Assessment (£1,000)
Required security certification for launch. - External Testing (£2,000)
Additional testing needed for this sensitive service before scaling. - Other Setup Costs (£1,000)
Stretch goal:
- Free Plan AI Costs (£1,000)
Support AI processing for free plan users until paid subscriptions or other funding can cover expenses.
Our Commitment to the Community
If we successfully raise £5,000, we’ll form a Community Interest Company (CIC) - a UK social enterprise that reinvests profits for the public good. As a CIC, exSplain will expand our free services, support more users, and partner with domestic abuse charities to amplify our impact. This step depends on hitting at least £4,000 towards our goal, so your support is crucial to making this vision a reality.
