Aim
Our aim is to empower children and young people facing challenging circumstances by connecting them with caring, trained adult mentors.
We need your help.
PROMISEworks is an inspirational charity that facilitates safe spaces for young people through long-term volunteer mentoring. We carefully match each young person with a trained Mentor. Someone who is consistent and reliable, someone that can install trust by simply turning up.
On average we have in excess of 300 outstanding referrals. That is 300 vulnerable young people and children in urgent need of a mentor.
Our Criteria for Referrals
Our referral criteria are based on the number and impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) a young person may have faced.
Physical, emotional, or sexual abuse. Neglect. Parental offending. Parental substance misuse. Parental mental health concerns. Parental divorce or separation.
Bereavement or loss of a parent. Living away from birth parents. Domestic abuse.
Unsafe neighbourhood or community violence. Caring responsibilities. Discrimination. Bullying. Living in poverty.
Your support can help us to match more vulnerable children and young people with a volunteer mentor.
Who are we?
The innovative mechanisms of PROMISEworks involve working collaboratively across the community in health, social and educational sectors, our 3 main referrers’. The volunteer mentors are kept separate from this, allowing them to develop trusted, long-term relationships with their young person, within the community. Fostering real relationships and real change. Each volunteer gives a minimum of 2 years, developing strong connections which can impact a life time.

Mentors walk alongside their young person. Through long-term, one-to-one relationships, they offer consistent support, encouragement, and hope — helping young people feel seen, believed in, and ready to shape their own future.

All of our volunteer Mentors attend a 4 day Endorsed Training Course. At the end of the training we ask them to self reflect. This can be as innovative and creative as they likely or simply answering the questions of what Mentoring means to them.
