Aim

To open Nantwich's first welfare-led cat café, helping rescue cats find loving homes while creating a welcoming space for our community.

Project Purrpose is my vision for a new kind of cat café in Nantwich... one where the welfare of the cats comes first, while creating a welcoming community space for people to relax, connect and enjoy the company of some very special rescue cats.

But this isn't just about having a coffee surrounded by cats.

At the heart of Project Purrpose is rehoming.

I want to work alongside animal rescue organisations to provide suitable rescue cats with a comfortable, enriching environment where they can meet potential adopters naturally. Rather than simply visiting the café cats, visitors may end up meeting the newest member of their family.

Supporting local rescues 🐾

Once Project Purrpose has an established, licensed and suitable premises, I plan to approach local rescue organisations about fostering suitable cats within the cat lounge. This would provide additional foster space for rescues while giving the cats greater visibility and opportunities to meet potential adopters.

Understandably, most rescue organisations need to see an established and appropriate environment before they can agree to a partnership, so these relationships will be developed once the space is in place.

The space will be divided into a café and a dedicated cat lounge, with the cats also having their own private retreat area away from customers. They'll always be able to choose whether they want human company or some peace and quiet.

The café is planned to open Wednesday to Sunday, 9am–4pm, with Mondays and Tuesdays closed to the public to give the cats regular downtime and allow for care, cleaning and maintenance.

I also want Project Purrpose to become part of the local community.

Alongside everyday café and cat-lounge visits, the longer-term vision includes activities such as afternoon teas, quiet reading sessions and SEN-friendly sessions, creating different ways for people to enjoy the space.

I've already carried out local market research, developed the business model, registered Project Purrpose Ltd, opened a dedicated business bank account and identified a potential premises in Nantwich town centre.

We've already asked the local community what they think.

In market research involving 134 respondents, 61% said they would visit a cat adoption centre in Nantwich, while 57% said they would be willing to pay an entrance welfare fee to support the rescue cats. The research also showed encouraging potential for repeat visits, helping demonstrate that Project Purrpose could have both community demand and a sustainable welfare-first model.

Now I need help turning all of that planning into a real place.

What will the money be used for?

The funds raised through this Crowdfunder will contribute directly towards the costs of getting Project Purrpose ready to open, including the specialist cat-lounge fit-out and partitions, cat furniture and enrichment, café equipment, refrigeration, signage, CCTV, accessibility improvements, licensing, insurance and the other essential start-up costs involved in creating a safe and welcoming space.

I'm keeping the fit-out practical and looking for donations and second-hand items wherever appropriate so that the money raised can go towards the things the project genuinely needs.
