Dulwich Park Playground is a popular amenity with a large and diverse user community. 25 years after installation, it is in increasing need of upgrading. In the current economic climate, the Council is not in a position to prioritise this without matched funding.
Can you help?
Based on a professional survey, £225,000 is a sensible planning figure for the most essential work, with a focus upon replacing the surface which is poor to bad and getting worse; digging much of it out and starting again is the only lasting solution.
All weather surfacing around the large slide is another priority. Happily, most of the existing equipment can be refurbished, although the popular wooden fort is nearing the end of its safe life. It would be wonderful if the fort could also be replaced as part of Project Swings and Roundabouts. The confirmed cost requires a detailed specification still being worked upon; the working assumption is a cost in the range £30,000 - £40,000.
The Council having indicated that matched funding will be available for the most essential work, Dulwich Park Friends are keen to partner with the Council on Project Swings and Roundabouts. So we need to raise £112,500 i.e. 50% of the cost of the most essential work.
Please donate whatever you can to help us reach this challenging target. If we do not reach the goal, we will nevertheless ensure that all funds raised are applied only to benefit the playground.
